At a loss here... Need some help diagnosing

Okay, so this is my 5th run now. I'm at a loss. I germ my seeds, they go into some small starter pots -- quick growth, perfect, green color, rarely any stretching. Then about 3 weeks in, give or take, about 50% of my plants develop this problem. The leaves get yellowish and crinkle. Growth seems a little slow. Then, like clockwork, right before flowering, the plants seem to return to normal - color and all.

I've had people suggest overwatering, but I'm allowing the soil to dry on top before watering again. I use distilled water, no ph changes. Happy Frog soil to start. Good quality seeds from reputable Breeders. But every time, at least one of my plants develops this problem. I really want to get this sorted out before my next run in about 2 weeks. If you need any info I may have left out, please don't hesitate to ask!

What are your temps and rh running? It doesn't look like cal/mag but I'd be adding a little to the distilled water anyway.

I've been adding cal mag every other water so I didn't think it was that either. Temps around 75-80ish. Ph I'm not sure. Ph is the only problem I could think of so I'll have to get a meter

I`m thinking ph

Your using distilled water so I`m thinking you may be getting some ph swings

You may have to add some silicone to the distilled water and then ph down it back to where it needs to be or add some other buffers or maybe add some kinda buffers to your soil next time ?

Any ideas where to get silicone? Preferably online. Does ph on distilled run high? Thanks a lot.

ill leaning to ph.

ive gotten distilled thats read anywhere from 5.5 - 7.0 so its not always the same every gallon. Then adding nutes or calmag is going to lower your ph as well.

Id recommend a water ph meter very soon. I ph it all to around 6.5 , varying some days. if i add one to many drops of ph up and its 6.6 or 6.4 that is fine. i stay around 6.5 with FFOF and then dont even bother checking run off. ill check runoff ppms near end of week to see if i should water a bit heavier with water/calmag only to give a slight flushing to any build up during the week.

you need to ph the water that runs out of the pot or check the soil ph

yes it more then likely is a cal/mag shortage people will tell you to feed cal/mag but that is bullshit you`ll lock it up more if you do not address the actual problem

ph effects what your plant can and can`t absorb and distilled water changes ph fast as it has no buffers, if you don`t learn to ph you may as well just throw a plant away when it gets sick, learning to ph is easier then learning how to read the leaves

a good grower can do both spot problems in the plants past and gauge its current state that way you know what it needs now and what it will need in the up coming days or weeks

Then you know what else to keep around to feed it and what you`ll need to order and so on

fixing problems after they`ve caused the plant to show you them is counter productive if you can spot the problem before it effects the plant

PH is a very small part of gardening but most of the time it`s the key trigger for the issue you need to learn to fix

Good luck

Give us specifics on your grow and we can give you a more fine tuned answer my friend. Just by pictures it looks like a couple of issues but I don't want to guess and lead you the wrong way without the proper info.

upload_2014-12-20_2-20-9.jpeg get this test kit from amazon dont buy a ph meter or a pen they're all junk. You have to keep them wet and they crap out after a year. The probe style soil tester never works.

What do you need to know? I don't want to throw a bunch of useless info at you. Mix of FFOF and Happy Frog soil. 250 watt mh to start them. PH unknown at this time. Water is distilled.
