At what point do I change from 18/6 to 12/12?

I'm a total noob to this, and just want to know how far along I should let my girl get in veg. She is Ice strain if that helps at all.

you can let her flower as long as you like, years if you really feel like it, however if you are just trying to get some weed to smoke, you should veg for a couple weeks at the least. It depends on what room you have, how much time you have, if you want to clone you could have a yield every couple weeks or so

usually after pre-flower.
Or like Mike said if you have other limitations.

you should read the grow bible. There's alot of good info to get you started.

You can do the switch over of cycles at any point you want it really depends on personal wants and needs as stated above a few things to keep in mind. Most people I know wait till their plants are a foot tall before they flower as its a good base size to go from.

When it comes to size limits remember a plant can double in size through out the flower cycle ( Say your grow room/ tent/ box is 3 feet tall by 3 feet wide) you wouldn't wanna veg it much bigger than 1.5 feet squared.

But as for time line there's no set time my current clone is off of a 5 year old mother plant that was just put into flower this summer after over 4 years in veg as long as your light cycle stays in veg your plant should veg, (I say should as in my current grow ive had early flowering issues) as for flower im pretty sure after a while you start to degrade the thc and develop bud rot after a while not 100% sure on the flowering so someone correct me if I'm wrong

It has been my experience that the longer one allows there plant to vegout the larger its yields will be! I let to them be all that they can be 4-8 weeks veg depending on the sativa % in the strain. Have fun cause cannabis rocks meh world!

Just think, if you were growing 12/12 from seed you wouldn't even had to ask this question. You need to research, I'm not even a grower and I know more than you. Botany and agriculture require lnowledge. Take this opportunity to learn as much as you can. Not trying to be a smartass, just being honest.

For highest yield, you'd want to veg 8 weeks. However, that could end up giving you a very tall plant in a not-so-tall grow space, and you can't have that. If you're growing outside, it doesn't really matter as long as you have plans to support the plant as it grows 6-12+ feet hight.

For indoor growing, you have to expect a 2-3x stretch once you make the switch to 12/12, so look at how much room you have and flip when your plant's about 1/3 of the vertical space. Make sure you account for the light and the buffer zone you need below the light to keep the top colas from burning.

In my 6" tent, that means I flip around 5 or 5.5 weeks.

In my flower room the plants have about 5-6 feet between them and the light. So I want my plants to finish around 48 inches. Given that my girls pretty much double in size during flowering, I switch them from veg at 20-24 inches tall. Works 4 me, BigSteve.

It's impossible to tell when you should flip your plants to flower without knowing the dimensions of your grow room, the power of your light, the number of plants, and any potential timeline restrictions. Contradictory to what people here have said, vegging for a long time doesn't always increase the yield. The shortest way to get a high yield in a small amount of time is to go Sea of Green style, and get a lot of small identical plants. I think that if your grow area is more than 6ft x 6ft x 6ft, you will get more yield in a shorter time if you grow Sea of Green style, which involves only 1-2 weeks of veg. If your floor area is less than 36 square feet, I'd advise about 3-5 weeks of veg, depending on the height, and then flip it to flowering. Ice will stretch about 100% or so, depending on the particular plant
