At what point do you consider a plant to be in the flowering phase?

Up until now, i always assumed that if someone said their plants were 4 weeks into flower that they meant 4 weeks into the 12/12 phase.

Apparently there are people who consider the flowering phase to begin when the flowers actually start to appear.

Am i the minority or majority here? Which one do you go by? It seems more logical to me for the flowering phase to begin as soon as you switch the light cycle over, otherwise how can you come up with a reliable objective way to pinpoint the time when a plant transitions from veg to flower? Its a gradual process.

This has been a post on one of the forums before. From what I read it was about 50% said first 12/12 day the other 50% said when flowers showed.

I go by first full 12/12 day as day 0.

i think only a few go by when they find pistils. its usually counted when you switch the lights. i remember asking subcool this question and he replied along the lines of, when you switch to 12/12 because nothing else makes sence. lol

there are two active threads with this exact same question that was started today. a plants not flowering until it shows flowers. You trigger a plant to show flowers by fluipping to 12/12. So the tru answer is when flowers show usually like 3-4 days after flipping to 12/12. I just flipped my ladies to 12/12 two minutes ago . So when i tell people when i started flowering ill say halloween even though the flowers havent showed yet. ReaLLY PERSONAL PREFERENCE

over the years of reading books and browsing different forums. I am going to say that it seems a small majority count from the day the light cycle is switched. Which is correct? don't have a definitive answer. The key is knowing when to tell it's ripe by looking at it. Temperature of the room also affects things. The cooler the room the longer it will take. You can't just count out 8 weeks and harvest, you have to look and observe.

Nobody who measures their flowering period from the 12/12 switch would disagree. You don't go by how long they have been flowering, but it seems to me that it would be better just using the 12/12 switch even if it might not be technically accurate because there is no room for interpretation. Someone might look at a plant and say its started flowering, whereas another might look and say it hasn't.

I never actually though about that, but it makes sense. I no longer see any reason why anyone would ever count flowering days by when they think they see pistils appearing.
