Hi all. I hope all is well. Can any one recommend a ph tester that's good and reasonably priced? Also how do you all measure the ph of the soil? I don't have a big grow or plan to so I can't justify spending too much. Appreciate any help.

pet shops have some but i'm not too sure on the ph range or quality,
am looking for one myself so let me know if you have any luck. Would the strips work for soil?
I had to move one of the vege girls outside for about a week and i think it might be trying to
head can i save her by bringing back in and putting under 24 light?

Go to any nursery n u'll find a soil pH testing kit for $20-$30,dont stress too much about the pH of the soil though,if ur byin ur soil it'll be in the right range n wont change too much (at least not in 1 season).

Thanks for that. I won't bother with it then. Sorry for asking another question though but do you add nutes to the water then test the ph to make sure it's in the correct range?

thanks for that, yeah i'm using coir, i've never done a ph test before, and i've got one lot in flower now 2 in coir and one in clay with water pump running for 16hrs on and 8 off, i didn't realise any different till i came to this site, unsure of strain but i'll put pics up tomorrow

Aww dangit I accidentally unsubscribed this thread and missed what would have been one of the most fun shit fights ever! Illegal stuff on the net is great, cos if someone really pisses you off (and you're a cunt) you can get a more tech savy mate to find the offenders IP and have all sorts of fun!

I'm afraid my 2 outdoor plants are going to fuck up. It was a rush job getting them outside and I've dug them in right near a living room window; and the lights stay on till 3am most days so... I think I'm raising my 2 beautiful girls to go hermie :(

if you have a good eye for colour the aquarium PH kits are great, I prefer the drops to the strips as the strips can be effected by just you touching them. With the drops you can really clean the tube properly and have a fairly neutral environment.

They're cheap and easy. I personally don't feel the need to be 100% accurate with PH, as long as you stay within range itll be fine.

with soil i only bother checking the ph of the run off maybe every week or so just to be safe. Have never had to really adjust it, it always stays between 6.5 - 7.5 which is good enough.

With hydro I'm checking the ph every day, if not twice, seems to play a much more important role since soil generally does a good job of buffering ph whereas with hydro your ph can swing easily and cause major nutrient lockouts.

One thing I do suggest is buying some dechlorinator from the pet store. Depends where you live in oz but if you're in a crappy tapwater area like me (meaning anyone in Metro SA should do this) you're going to need to get rid of chloramine in the water, it doesn't evaporate so leaving it out overnight aint good enough. Sure your plants will still grow but for an extra $20-30 a grow i personally feel it's worth getting rid of an unwanted chemical from my water.

I run fish tanks so I always have it handy anyway but its a great tool. And if you're wondering what one is the best? Well its Prime by Seachem. It's more expensive but it actually detoxifies ammonia and also helps nitrate levels in the water (good for Nitrogen uptake). Nitrites are also detoxified. It's also super concentrated and you only need tiny tiny amounts so it doesn't end up costing much more, in fact it might end up costing less.

If your local pet store doesn't stock it then I wouldn't worry, any dechlorinator is fine... but I'd suggest never buying fish from there.

Finally someone else who doesn't feel the need to have pH pens... The calibration is very difficult and often needs two pens to make sure its right... I swear by my aquarium test kit and I only use a PPM test pen for my nutrient and I get my hydroguy to calibrate it..
Onya ADLpotter... :weed: Good to hear...

I have fish, so i've already got Aqua Master chlorine neutral, might start using that i guess,
thank you for the tips...
this site is the best

dont get me wrong, chloramine probably won't kill your plants or anything like that, but still who needs it.

Oh and anyone getting their water through an activated carbon filter doesn't need to worry as it also helps remove chloramine.

Hope I'm not throwing petrol on a fire here, but what's wrong with commercial quantities?

Even if you grow a small amount and sell a small amount to friends, guess what?, you're a commercial grower... Any time money changes hands for it, its commercial...Quantity has really nothing to do with it... I've got a huge room with two big lights in it and a mother cupboard for fast turnover times... Does that make me commercial? ... I really don't care if it does....

If I can put some nice pot out there that has been grown with love and care, versus the shit that's mass produced by "bigger commercial growers", who do it for cash and cash only, I can't see a problem with it... :-) There really is no right or wrong answer as its all illegal here in Australia...Decriminalised or not, its still worth a visit from the police...:-( Peace to all, (grabs fire extinguisher and stands back warily)...
