Honestly tho you could add an extra 200w of infrared bulbs/leds and youd get the same result. After all thats where the extra heat is coming from. And hps's produce way more ir than the plants need.

generally leds prefer a little more magnesium and phosphorus. And yeah tas is definitely too cold over winter. Personally I keep my grow at 27-30 for leds even over winter but let it get to 35 ish over summer. Hps would cook plants are that temp but led handles it fine

600 and 315 is 31c and the de set to 1000 is 27c
Portable ac set to 18.

Id move lights closer and restrict exhaust before that but yeah i could imagine youre right. Things dont get below zero in my neck of the woods.

still need to maintain minimum air flow though and leds just don’t make enough heat to keep temps up in southern areas. Even in my place i vent excess heat from my wood fire into the shed/laundry area to keep the temps up a little over winter (normally 5-10 degrees above outside).

If a 600 and 315 are 29.5 leaf top temps I’d guess the 550 was lower than that. Would guess root zone temps would be around the 20 degree mark. That’s a bit cold. Especially if the res is that temp or colder.

It’s because watts measure power, it’s not a unit of output and doesn’t deal with efficiency losses. For lights you want to measure their output in photons per area per distance or ppfd. Like a 1000w toaster outputs a little light from it’s resistance coil (and would be one bitchin toaster) but wouldn’t produce the same amount of light as a 1000w hps single ended because the toaster has no efficiency. Same as a double ended hps out performs a single ender.

leds are just another light source. All light is pretty equal if you go off the photon output. Unfortunately leds do have a downside which is cooler environments. Leds are the shit in hot areas where you’d normally be running tons of ac to keep hps grows cool enough.
