Auto flower topped vs not topped

Let’s clear it up right away I’m a brand new grower this is the first grow, I’ve ever done and if you can tell I tinker with things… I know autoflowes 90% (from my research) say don’t top them, I wasn’t going against advice this plant was damaged so figured I’d try it out since it needed to be removed let’s just say I dropped something right on top of the plant


anyway there both planted same day same pots same soil critical purple from growers choice just a fun first grow to learn

Well, I guess we're all going to find out.
I have a pair that I topped but one decided she was going to have an apical cola either way. This was a month ago. The left did like normal but the one on right said "NOPE! MY WAY!" And reestablished her central cola. Left is fluffier, right is Solid. Hardest nugs I've grown. Should be ready soon. I'll get a pic tonight. Forgive the yellowing, I'm still learning As well.

Are you checking ph of what you are watering with?

the leaves on the one (both actually), are turning light brown, and if it keeps up like that I don’t think the plants will last much longer.

I’m not positive with soil but I believe you want about 6.5ph. Hopefully someone can confirm.

I’m not positive that is the problem but it’s my guess, going off knowing nothing about your medium and environment

just plain ph’ed water is all I would do till the browning stops

Okay sorry for my bad explanation I meant new growers from my research are suggested not to top until you’re more familiar

Thank you I have another post asking what’s wrong here no one caught it! But you’re dead on I just got my soil ph tester and it is a little high how could I bring it down?

I think I just replied on your other post.

regardless. Make a tester pot or cup and see what ph water needs to go in to get what you want coming out.

ideally your medium is set up in accordance to this and you don’t have to use ph ups and downs so much or at all

Yea I haven’t been using any and my water was around 6.6 guess the soil has a high PH thank you for catching/confirming… it being my first grow for a second thought nute burn but the bigger plant is way worst than smaller one or maybe appears that way with more leaves and seedlings are fine so must be the soil

If you got more seeds , I would start a couple more just in case theses ones don’t do well.

after you are pretty sure you have everything dialed in

All good, the second and third pics were my first plants as well, so I don't think there is any special knowledge needed to top a plant. A lot of people make growing weed out to be complicated, but my first auto pulled close to half a pound in $4 potting mix.

A lot of new growers get fed shit about how picky these plants are and end up overthinking, but from my experience they have been some of the easiest plants to grow.

Multiple toppings, just fine. Only 3 kinds of people say you can't top autos. New growers that repeat what they read when they haven't even harvested a single plant. Growers that topped and stunted their plants due to bad lighys, nutes or just plain cheap ass genetics(those $20 for 5 seeds shit). 3rd are the old growers that think they are some sort of horticultural god and a plant needs to grow in it's natural state. All clowns if you ask me.

Yea sorry for being one of them spreading false info, guess I should of explained more that people just say don’t do it anyway awesome looking grow man!!!!! Hope to be on that level one day just getting my foot in the door sucks but for now all I can do is read what info I can and talk to you guys but def should of generalized I was meaning most new growers don’t top

I wouldn’t top short internode plants. Makes them too bushy and hard to train. Simply LST I find works best.

Anything else is fair game tho - in fact im growing a sativa auto right now which has 4 tops 4ft tall after being topped! I can only imagine how tall she would be if left alone

Top them or LST them it doesn't matter as long as you mess with the apical dominance. I find topping to be far easier process once you get over the fear of hurting your babies. LST is a bit of a chore honestly, but if you like playin with your plants it works just as well.

What's wrong with "apical dominance"? A bud looking thing as long as your arm is cool.

How much extra weight does LST cause?
