Autoflower query...what do i do now?

Hi guys, thought i'd ask a few questions....sorry for the long-winded post.

For starters...i KNOW mistakes i have made. This grow was a bit of a nightmare in the early stages, lights have blown and not been replaced, and so for a time my girls were sat on the windowsill as i had no better lighting! When i get money i will be buying a few more cfls and one of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125w-Dual-Spectrum-CFL-hanger-hydroponics-grow-light-/300595643642?pt=UK_HomeGarden_Garden_PlantsSeedsBulbs_JN&hash=item45fce584fa

Ok....two seedsman northern lights fem autoflowerers. They were a freebie so i decided to give them a try first, and save my sweetseeds fast bud for later!
The first problem was soil. The pots were half filled with nice soil mixed with perlite, the top halves just regular ghetto soil from wilkinsons!
Light - i did have two 30w cfls, blue spec. One of them blew, thankfully not on the plants, but it scared me enough to make me put them on my (very bright) windowsill until i could get more, and get over the trauma of the bulb sounding like a bomb had gone off when it blew!
So...my girls stretched, as you can see in the pics. (I called them Lolly and Lucky by the way lol due to the inital stretching - after my partners pets, Lolly is a skinny kitten and the Lucky is a fat dog!) Lolly is on the left and Lucky right in my pic.
I put these in soil on the 15th Aug, didn't move them from the windowsill to my grow box til two weeks later. Money has been too tight to buy more bulbs so they've been under one 30w cfl under 18/6...and i took advantage of the DIY thread and made a "beercan" reflector to optimise the light! Pic enclosed! They have also had three douses of 10-10-10 nutes. I have tomato feed for the flower stage.

The problem is, i'm now starting week 4 and they are both quite small, around 12 inches tall. They look healthy and smell REAL nice, especially Lucky (!) but i'm not sure whether to switch them to 12/12, change to red cfl and start the flower nutes, or let them try to grow a bit first? Or will the autoflower element just take care of itself? Any advice would be greeted with warm fuzzies! :hump:

Thanks, yeah i thought that but they were so small this time last week, lol they didn't look like they could carry any bud without falling over! I also assumed being autoflowers they would just do their thang

-it will flower automatically theres no need to cut back on light to 12/12. as a matter of fact for autos it is said that it is best to keep them with light between 18-20 hrs a day. Unless you have one of those autos that dont flower unless the lights are cut back to 12/12. if i was you i would wait another week more, how long does this strain says it goes for from seed to harvest?

they lookin nice and green but rather small.... mine were a little bigger when they started but dont forget these are autos and they have a programmed flowering time so dont change the amount/time (should be between 18/6 - 20/4 or 24full) the cfl your lookin at will do them fine...... https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/199319-autoflower-thread-resource-guide.html

Thanks guys :) i think i've found it confusing because my first grow (lowryder #1) grew so big so fast! These girls have been way slow, possibly due to the problems i had in the first week or so.
Bestbuds09 - i haven't seen any info on the seedsman NL strain which is frustrating, just the nirvana ones....and they have been notorious for their non-autoflowering!

like best buds say they will take care of themselves with flowering, no need to induce flowerinf for true autos, once u see signs of flowering place some 2700k lights over them, 6400k not mandatory coz im using only 2700k for mine, each bulb might cost noting more than couple of pounds mate, and get a holder and there u go, hope it helped,

:peace:

Thanks Loophole :) i have a 2700k ready to go, how much longer do you think i should wait for signs of flowering? It's just i've heard the nirvana NL autos have had problems and weren't auto-ing without going to 12/12, wondering if the seedsmans are a bit duff too

well mate mine took 3 weeks to show signs of flowering, in your case your starting week 4, and If i was in your shoes and i dont see any signs yet, i would mix the spectrum up a bit with one 6400k maybe and see what it does as your imitating natural light...but your one is a NL so I would see how she goes until the fourth week and then as i said would mix the spectrum and give 20/4, that also gives a small boost to flower because of the rest, like i said before still not a hard and fast rule... or just wait with the advice patiently and you may see preflowers soon mate.
Good luck
:peace:
get the cheap 2700k from some small hardware store, big chains dont sell them, max they do 1400lumen crap...or 7000 lumen halogen LOOL....for the ovens :D

Cheers, that's some good advice :) i might switch the lights to run 20/4 and see where they're at in a few days time, fingers crossed!

Switched to 20/4 yesterday and gave a cup of flower nutes....hey presto this morning Lucky is showing preflowers! Coincidence, this quick? Hmmmm... :-D

Hi Loop :) chuffed mate lol didn't expect to turn the corner so quick.

A quick close-up of those lil hairs!
The other plant isn't doing so good, still small and not doing much. Yesterday i found a root popping out of the top of the soil. I covered it a cm deep and watered...have to wait n see how she reacts.
So, got them under two 30w cfls, one blue one red, still under 20/4. Got another 4 bulbs ordered (two of each spec) so hopefully they will have a much more pleasant environment very soon!

Hi Loophole, hows your beautiful Blue coming along?
My best girl yesterday :) both plants are doing fine, the shorter one is now the same height as the other, doesn't have any real smell though. Lol Lucky STINKS!

Hi Welsh (lol i'm a fellow welshie!) yeah that seems late, mine were tiny and did nothing up until week four...but 6 weeks must be frustrating for you!
What light timing are you giving them? I was on 18/6 but moving to 20/4 really made them shift.

hi mate, yeah they are on 18/6 not to bothered to be honest they are only there while the rocklocks are vegging, they are looking sound to be honest. looked up these seeds and from what i learnt i think these are originaly nirvanas nl autos sold by seedsman, and they were pulled by nirvana for being crap, but im quite impressed to be honest.

Ah right, wouldn't be surprised if they were the nirvana seeds, there's hardly any info on "seedsman nl auto" out there. Hopefully they produce some nice smoke for us soon, anythings a bonus what with them being freebies from herbies. :peace:
Lol love your avatar, thems happy bunnies!
