autos in 5gals outside..... few quick questions?!

ok.... so im thinking bout autos outdoors in 5 gal buckets....

my biggest issue is water... i want to minimize and i mean MINIMIZE my watering trips...

im trying to brainstorm how to accomplish this.... could anyone help me out with any ideas?

im thinking maybe leaving the lidds on the buckets? cutting a small hole for the plant... this is like ultimate mulch no? or bad idea?

could anyone help me with a soil mix that would help me minimize waterings...


and with all this what is the bare Min times i can expect to have to water these babies? assuming no rain... which i hope dont happen ! haha thanks for any info!

Autos suck up less water for the most part than regular plants, due to their small size. So thats a plus for your idea already, leaving the lids on the bucket would help, just make sure it has good drainage. And keep the bucket out of the sun, no reason for that soil to get 100 degrees in the summer. Set it in some weeds or something. But the less you care for your plants the less you will get from them. Its important to check your plants often, that way if there are any issues you can fix them right away, instead of you coming back a week later to dead plants. I understand not wanting to make that haul, but less risk, less reward. More risk, more reward.

and yeah thats why i chose autos! ... do you think i would have no problem making it atleast one week?
only worry really be bugs right... just sevendust the whores no?

I've grown mighty mite in 5 gallon buckets. It was actually my first grow when I was a young.






This is last season and I only visit once a week till harvest season

If you're planting outside and plan to set it and forget it you should really look at putting them in the ground. I used to plant in pots outside like that, Never again. Containers get hot, they dry out, and I've had problems with ant and termite developers thinking it's a condo. Covering up the bucket could lead to fungus and mold growing within the container.

The only real advantage to containers is you can move them when trouble pops up.

to me that above says pigmag.... thats what i wanna avoid lol.... and those arnt in pots.... but they are pretty :) do all autos get as big as those in the first pic there cause that very contradictory to what i have seen

well thats true man.... but if u dont wanna dig holes and shit..... especially with an auto cause its done so quick... its nots really set and forget it is just that i want to avoid digging

dude ive already dug holes and shit man... i know its work... im not shying away from it i just wanna do it in buckets cause they will be in places where yah cant dig.... and 5 gals of soill.... shit if that isnt plenty then i dont know what is lol...

I like those new camo 30 gallon grow bags they came out with. I've eyed them a few times at the grow shop but I like em in the ground. I know Sunshine mix has a mix with those water absobing polimer crystals in it. # 8 maybe? It's been along time, I really like Pro-Mix myself.

Add plenty of vermeculite and or perlite to retain moister, maybe go to the as seen on TV section at walmart and get a Aqua Globe or 2 or make your own Aqua globe out of a 2 liter bottle and a loong skinny funnel the soil will sop the water out as needed over a period of time.

yeah.. if u were going fullsize that would be a trick.. whats the longest you think i get away with without watering those babies? ur saying def a no go on leaving the lids on?

maybe drill the lid full of holes so some airflow could go through.....would you put a three inch layer of mulch?
