what it's doing now is establishing more roots. it pauses leaf growth for a bit, gets some roots, then starts growing first true set of leafs.
you can move light closer too to reduce that stretch.

And so am I just sitting back waiting and watering the cube occasionally until this process happens or is there something I should be doing to ensure it actually happens.

Done. And the seedling hasn't folded over and died yet so I guess all is well for now, I just for some reason feel like its something I should be doing
And I have the root riot inside one of the slots of an ice cube tray, that won't construct root development will it?

keep the roots that come out the RR moist all the time. dont' want them drying up at all. in shade would be better too.

Yes at the moment I can, Imma wait til tomorrow tho so I can set up a schedule.
1.) do this until the roots hit the water and gradually up the ppm right?
2.) I think I stated this earlier but I have a 1000w MH and my ballast is dimmable down to 600w (600,660,750,825,1000,1150w)
Should I start with it dimmed down to 600 or will that cause the plant to stretch?

VERY gradually.
i run lights 24/7 in veg to avoid stretch. just be careful that the light is not too close. maybe 18" at 600w. maybe 24". see how they react.

Ppm somewhere between 300-400 ppm(bluelab stick didn’t commit to either.)
And the distance from the bottom of the bulb to the top of the seedling is 5' or so at 600w so i'll give that a run for 24 hrs.
What are the signs that you're giving the seedling too much or too little lighting tho?
And btw I know I'm a noob so I appreciate how patient you've been bro, seriously

that's a good plan. slowly drop it maybe 6" a day. MH runs very hot so use the back of your hand test. if you can't keep your hand in place for maybe 15 seconds cause it gets too hot, that's too close. i wouldn't get any closer than 24".
no problem man. glad i can help.
300ppm seems a bit high so keep an eye on your leaf tips. if they turn yellow at all, add some RO or distilled water to get your ppms lower.

not unless you want 3rd degree burns! slowly raise your back of the hand up towards the light. when you get about a foot away, it'll be too hot to keep your hand there. if it's too hot for your hand, too hot for plant. with these new leds, that doesn't work.
i think slowly work down to 24" away. that should be plenty for a little seedling
if you see any yellowing on the leaf tips. i'm at really high altitude so my plants get nute burn easily. you might be OK but keep a close eye on them

When I use ro I start all seedlings with 100 ppm calmag and 150 ppm of seedling nute mix and then pH'd. It may not work for more sensitive strains like some og's but I've not found d one yet to be hurt by 250 ppm of nutes. That's what some people have in their tap. At least with ro I k ow what the 250 is.

I just went ahead and scrapped all the nutes and have just water in the reservoir in fear of an overdose and I kept the lights on a complete 24 hrs and my baby starting to look like this....
Should I have kept the nutes in? Is she getting too much light? This is annoying.

what ppm is your water? are you using RO? i don't see any nute burn so 300ppm might be fine for yours. def want nutes, not just plain water. maybe go for 200ppm just to be safe.
that doesn't look too bad. bring your light down to 36" away at 600w.
gently start filling up your net pot with more hydroton. try to cover the top of the RR and try to keep the seedling pointed straight up while you are filling around it.
how often are you top feeding? looks like the hydroton is too dry. don't let that RR dry out.
keep with it! don't give up. once the roots hit the res, your problems are just about over.

As you can see from my setup I can't really lower the lights and even with me putting the bucket on a stool it's still like 52" away from the bulb so maybe turn the ballast up to 750w?
Using tap water, tested it alone and it's roughly 100ppm. Just now added some nutes and the ppm is somewhere between 200-300 ppm.

And with the RR now covered, how do I top feed it?

any other way you can raise the bucket up more? going up to 750 seems a waste of electricity.
stick with that.
take your netpot off, scoop up a good 16 oz, 32oz of res water, put top back on, water by hand. do that 4 to 6 times a day.
do that for maybe 4 to 7 more days and i'm thinking you should have roots in the water.

Coming up on a week in the dwc system and she hasn't folded over and died so all is good I suppose. But am I overfeeding or do new leaves come in a brighter green as such.....
