BAD CANOEING and yellow edges

the plant is 25-27 days old and seems a bit small for its age.

-soil: cheap dollar store; PH not known
-watering: every 3 - 7 days; PH not known
-nutes: Shultz Drip Irrigation Food , because its 100% water soluable and works great for veg in my DWC Bubbler, and Epson Salt
-light: 4 - 23 watt 6500k CFL
-room temp: dont know but feels pleasently warm NOT hot
-Humidity: dont know, (soundin like a broken record)

The pics mostyly sum it, the leaves used to just canoe a bit then flatten out once they got bigger, but these have not and the leaves have started to yellow aroung the edges. the lower growth despite a few brown specks, looks healthy. This condition seems to on the top 2 leaf sets. I recently topped the plant im waiting for new growth( IF ANY) to see if it "fixes" itself. Think it may be Molybdenum deff. but have not had time nor do i know a cheap nute that has it. Purchasing some GH hydro nutes in 2 days maybe it will help. But if any one has any suggestions or has experience with pls post and let me know. Id be in your debt for lifekiss-ass

Where to begin... you've got quite a few problems going on here. The biggest ones are that you bought "cheap dollar store" soil and you apparently have no way of monitoring the pH of your water. If you can't be bothered to spend $5 on a pH test kit, you have no business growing marijuana. pH is a critical factor in growing weed. If your pH is out of wack, it will lead to all sorts of other problems, not the least of which is nutrient lockout.

That brings us to your next problem... nutrient lockout. You're giving your plants Schultz food... certainly not the best choice, but minimally sufficient to support a healthy plant. The problem is that the plants are not able to absorb and take advantage of the nutrients you are providing. Why? Go back and re-read what I said about your first problem. Your pH is likely too high and now you are suffering from nutrient lockout. You've got a pretty serious zinc deficiency going on. That is what is causing the tips and edges of the leaves to turn yellow. Zinc is an essential component in many enzymes as well as growth hormone auxin. Low auxin levels can be the cause of stunting of the plants leaves and the shoots. Zinc is also important in the formation and activity of chlorophyll.

In addition to the zinc deficiency, it is also likely that your plants are not receiving adequate potassium and magnesium. You say you are using epsom salt, which would normally rule out a magnesium problem, but since your plants are unable to properly absorb nutrients (re: nutrient lockout) it doesn't matter.

The key to fixing all this shit is to buy a pH test kit and adjust the pH of your water. You should also seriously consider getting some real nutrients... not the Mickey Mouse Schultz food you've opted to use thus far. I would say the same thing about your McSoil, but it's already established its roots and there's not a lot you can do about that. At least until it's time to transplant, at which point you should upgrade to a soil that's not sold alongside of swedish fish and baby socks.

HAHA, Really ate my ass apart huh...ok well the test strips will definatly be bought at same time with GH Nutes. Im guessing its the soil Ph, because my plants in the DWC tank has a similar fedding schedule and they are beautiful (pic below).And im no idiot, i know it takes extensive studying to grow pot and i have done mine, just that "the illegal drug lab" was a little out of my budget but now im all set. It may also be the potasium, but my Schultz has Zinc. Thanx for all the help, Rolla. rep+

P.S.- Yes that plant has set its roots stucture but all my plants we started in soil then i drowned the root ball, cleaned them and placed them in DWC, may do the same to her in 5 gallon bucket.

You answered your own question yourself... "PH not known" as rolla8 also pointed out.

Once you purchse the pH kit, what you can do is (assuming thats about a 1 gallon pot), make up about 4 gallons of correctly pH'd water and flush it through slowly. It takes a while for soil pH to change as it can hold a buffer of the old water which has the wrong pH.

Then let it sit somewhere where the excess water can run out freely. Hopefully by the end of the 4 gallons (assuming your soil drains properly), the run off coming out the bottom will be close to the correct pH.

It looks like the nutrients have an NPK rating of 20 30 20. For vegging you probably want nutrients with a higher N (nitrogen) rating than the P (phosphate) and K (potassium) content.
