The scientific basis for the ballast is all sound. A square wave does put out a lot more power than a sine or sawtooth wave of equal peak voltage. None of what AN claims is far-fetched at all. In fact, the technology they're using here is unique mainly in that it's being applied to lighting.
It's very similar to the advances in car stereo amplifiers that made it possible to have massive outputs without devoting your entire trunk to stereo equipment. I nice head unit today puts out more wattage and better sound than the nice custom stereos did when I was a kid.
I see a lot of people calling the ballast and the company names, but those aren't the same people who've actually tried the ballast and seen how well it works. (Because if they had they'd realize, as I know first-hand, that it's a very nice product.)
