Bagseed Hempy LED SCROG grow

Hey all, This is mostly a re-post from the DTW forum, but I wanted to post it here and post notes from my journal too..

I'm new to Hempy, and new to Hydro in general, but I kind of have the hang of it and have grown DWC and Soil before each once.

I've got a single lady in 100% perlite with some hydroton on top. It's in a 20 gallon rubbermaid with no lid, and a drain spigot/hose.

I have a 16x16 LED 60/40 red/blue light which the plant just seems to love. I am doing SCROG and right now the LED is only about 3" from the plant's tops (a plenty).

If I follow this religiously, it yields perfect results. If I try to push it, I get some minor nute burn, so it is a good mix. It doesn't yield very high PPM levels (or maybe my PPM meter is crap) I think around 400 or so tops. But this stuff works great and is super easy to work with!!

My gear.... In hindsight, I would have gone with a smaller tub that is easier to drain, but this ended up working awesome still. I also would have put more hydroton on top of the perlite because it keeps peeking through, esp. if/when I do flushes, and I like it all hydroton on top as it looks cleaner..

I started in a small plastic tub in rockwool with a lid, total darkness and a heating mat until my seed cracked. It had like a 2" taproot in 3-4 days, the heating mat is the hot tip - use one!

I put it into 12/12 immediately then into 24/0 for a bit since it can't flower or show sex for ~4 weeks anyways.. then went to 18/6 then 12/12...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Day 56 exactly 8 weeks of flower.. What do you think - is she ready or should I wait another week? It's hard to tell if she is still growing or not. Orange pistils @ 60% I heard they should be @ 80%. I mostly see white trichomes - waiting another day for my 30-60x loupe to arrive, then I will have me a better look...

It looks exactly like it did 4 days ago, so I think it's done... Gonna starve it of water a day and then take away the light for a day, and then chop it.. sound reasonable?

A couple calyxes being formed still haven't blossomed after 2 days of me noticing and monitoring them, so I think it's stalled growing.. does the plant do this when it's ready?? I don't want to be too eager to chop it, but I also don't want to harvest too late - dislike the couch lock buzz..

Get that magnifying glass yet? I just flush when most of the trichomes are turning from clear to cloudy. I chop when they are turning amber. I go for the couch lock though.

I picked up a cheap 60x loupe, and from what I could tell 2 days ago, there are like 50% clear, 45% cloudy, and 5% amber.. so I'm gonna try to hold off a few more days. Probably pluck a top leaf and check it again in a few more days and then compare, and see how fast it's ripening, and then decide if I want to wait a few more days or a week or just go chop it then... *sigh* it's toying with my emotions now!!

But AFAICT it looks like the plant has completely stopped growing, like it's in shock.. is this normal for the last week or so, and only the trichomes continue to age/change?

Day 106 (64 of flower).. Took it outside to trim & harvest today - not quite ready I guess though, lots of early buds still not yet fully formed.. Trichomes are like 20% clear, 75% cloudy, and 5% amber.. trimmed off ALL the fan leaves, which exposed a lot more of the undergrowth.. gonna let it go another couple days I think now.. took a small sample bud off top to dry and try..

Still no change since my last update. Gonna keep letting them phatten up until the trichomes begin to go more amber than the 5% they are now..
