Baking soda.... riase soil ph? or just the water ph?

got issues... soil ph is 5.0 i've flushed iwth 7.0 and a week later with 7.5ph water and soil is still at 5.0 so i researched soil ph and i need to add lime to the mix to get it to go up. problem is that noone where i live has it. one hardware store ordered some in for me but won't be here for 8 days with xmas....

will baking soda raise my soil ph? i have rooted clones i need to get in soil!

Jesus, did you buy your soil from Acid Farms, inc? Foxfarm's too good for the likes of you?

Soil with a PH of 5.0 is actually 100 times more acidic that 7.0 soil. What is going on out there?

Short answer, YES, sodium bicarbonate will raise the pH of the water, and should raise the pH of the soil slightly. But it's likely it's going to bounce back down, and you're going to need to flush the sodium bicarbonate out, likely sooner rather than later.

ph up for fish tanks is more stable last longer, my tap water is above 8.2 iwater with it when the peat in my soil get to acidic wet soil always test acidic let it dry out and test again in may be ok fish ph up is the best need a test kit too

well this is Pro-Mix soil with perilite added. watered with 6.5ph... = 5.0 soil run off

if i take new soil and water it first with 8.0 (straight off the tap) would it start the soil ph up higher than 5.0?

this is just to help me until next week when that lime comes in. but my plants have lockout big time from being in 5.0 soil for over a month. Just going to take clones and start them fresh in correct ph soil and use them as moms.

There's a difference between kits and their accuracy, FOR SURE. For my run-off testing I'm using aquarium test kits (Tetratest Laborette, fairly accurate without costing an arm and a leg). If you want real quality and accuracy, look into LaMotte's line.

I just sprinkled some baking soda on the top of the soil then watered them well. run off is now 6.5

we'll see if they recover from their lock out

Well, its been nearly a year, and nothing else...?
Did your trees recover when you added the baking soda on top of the soil???
I'm dying to get an answer!

Why is it that every newbie with pH problems seems to think pH Up or baking soda or some other household ingredient might be the answer to their problems?

If you're growing in soil, you shouldn't use pH Up or even need to. The answer is dolomite limestone or pulverized egg or oyster shell, that is appropriate, long-term solution for future reference. Baking soda is basic and will raise pH to an extent, but it is sodium bicarbonate. Sodium salts aren't something you want much of in your soil.

Yep...why?

Just spend the money for some FFOF. 6.3-.6.8 Ph
I look @ it this way. Less I need to mess with. The better my grows work out.

Make sure tho that if you want to make sure you're not harming your plants, that you use organic chemicals and nutrients...
