Ballast wattage

Is it true for a 600w power ballast I can only use 600w bulbs? Because I wanted use 400w mh for veg so looks like I will have to go with 600w for veg instead?

yes. If you got a 600W Ballast..you can only use 600W bulbs..It will send to much voltage to the 400W and they will burn out.

don't listen to them im running a 400 w mh in a 600w ballast


Just MAKE SURE YOU SET IT TO 400w BEFORE YOU TURN IT ON >>


>>> unplug put 400 mh in turn to 400w setting then proceed to plug it in .. NEVER put it up a mode with it in could be bad ..

there for if you do as i do it's basically operating as a 400 , and a 400 w ballast runs 440 anyway so aslong as you dont turn the power up you will be ok .. for long perioids of time i would just fork out for a new bulb to save trouble ,,

zz your wrong..he does not have a switchable/dimmable ballast!...now your gonna ruin his bulb!

I knew he didnt..cause if he did he would see the settings on the dial and know that, and would not have to ask..I hope he didnt just do what you recommended..otherwise he is out money for the bulb and prob pissed as hell and never trust this forum again.

Strange to assume everybody has a dimmable ballast. Not every electric ballast is dimmable either.

and thought they all came that way. I don't think it's strange to assume.

OP no no no. Just use your 600 hps bulb or go buy a 600 mh. Most ballasts will run HPS or MH but make sure first. Running a 400 watt in a 600 could potentially cause it to burn. While chances are it wouldnt start a fire you dont want to risk that. Take it from a guy who lost everything he owned in a fire.

Amen. Dude I hope you listen to us more experienced growers then someone trying to rank up....all the best to you, and I hope your grow is successful, but hope you read this! (expecially if you have family)...any risk on any ones danger is not worth growing at all!..it's a hobby ..lets keep it that way!..and again..400W in a 600W Ballast will cause problems...

This is a prime example on why you should BING your question instead of asking a bunch of stoners a question .. People like ZZ are stoned and will give bad advice. Proper research will get you proper answers.
