ok so i bought some stuff off of craigslist 2day
everything is in great shape.
my question is????
i got a 600w hps ballest and bulb
then i also have a 400w hps ballest and 400w mh bulb
it works fine just woundering if i will run into any problems using the hps ballest for a mh bulb?

you shouldn't mix bulbs. period. even if the mh works in the hps ballast
try looking into dual mh/hps ballasts. these you can switch bulbs in

You can run a mh bulb in a hps ballast with no worry, ive asked growers who were professional electricians and they say its fine. it may shorten bulb life by a small amount though.

nope, the mh bulb is where its ignition part is on an mh system. a hps's part is not in the bulb so since mh setups have theirs in the bulb their setups dont contain one so youve got no way to fire the hps up in a mh setup while the mh in the hps system just has 2 ignitors. which is fine according to my electrician friends but it may slightly shorten the life span of the bulb.

really id advise you get a high out blue/violet spectrum added hps bulb and use for all stages. ive used normal mh, normal hps, ceramic metal halide, and the high output hps bulbs and the high output hps is the best for both stages imo. ceramic metal halide gets second. a mixed spectrum is very important for your plant to reach its full potential. its well worth getting.
