Bamboooo...

I have one that I planted ten yrs ago and it has now run throughout my small townhouse shade garden. It lights up a dark space with it's variegated leaves and lasts into January until the elements beat it down. And best of all, no maintenance.

we have some in our yard that we never planted or anything, and we've been trying to get rid of it now for like 5 or so years.. god damn is all i have to say about bamboo, lol.. that shit has to be the hardiest plant, weed, w/e it is that i've ever seen..
the thing is, if you just top it, it grows like twenty shots from where you topped it at.. the shit's grown under our sidewalk and onto the other side now and is pretty much taking over the one part of our yard..
i managed to dig up about a 5 x 10 foot area of it, roots and all, and it hasn't grown back in that one spot, but damn, that was some hard digging as the roots are close to the top of the soil and are thick as poo...

just be warned if you're thinking about planting this stuff, it can, and will take over where ever you plant it..

thats what i'm hoping. that it takes over the whole block. it has already jumped underneath my concrete walkway. it's way better looking than a boring green lawn. it's my gift to the neighborhood:)

Two kinds of bamboo., Clumping and running. If you plant running bamboo you can prepare yourself for a whole lot of maintenance. The clumping varieties are much easier to control. I have pulled off a freeway and dug up a few roots of giant bamboo on more than one occasion.. I have several nice clumps of diff varieties and it is quite a nice addition to the property.

I've had some experience and have read a little bit about bamboo. The non-clumping or running bamboo can be a real pain if youndont contain it. However, if you put it in a pot, above ground planter, or just set a "fence" around it - it can be an awesome plant and will fill out with shoots all the way around. Ive seen some awesome gardens using all types of bamboo.

Some growers looking to hide their cannabis crops use bamboo as cover I have heard.

Many are hardy here in the NE. it never really gets that cold for long. The Atlantic ocean mitigates our weather to some extent.

Yeah it makes for great camouflage.[/QUOTE}

Neighbor of mine has a 1'4 acre of bottom where he has a barn. It's about forty steps below his main lot He planted a buttload of clumping Budda Belly and the tops of the bamgoo are even with the top of his house. I can't see his barn anymore. No shit the whole barn is just gone. It would be a great place to grow weed. I don't think he can get to it though

Bamboo plants can be uber easy to make a bunch of from 1 plant because 1 bamboo plant once topped if its a straight shot growth will produce 2 new shoots and 1 year you can have around 9 or more bamboo plants just from 1.

My neighbor planted bamboo on the border of our property...It's now 30+ feet tall, and eats neighborhood cats, dogs, and children on a regular basis.....

hahaha. So far I've gotten 2 new shoots on my bamboo plats every 2 to 3 months after I top them. Soon I will be making peaces and such and selling them.

I have knotweed...looks like bamboo...kills anything else trying to grow near it...no matter how many times you chop it down it just comes back more...winter kills it all off, but it grows all right back up quickly in the spring...its a little bit of an eyesore :D

If you're not moving soon then you'd be cursing yourself too. Kudzu or poison ivy once established are near impossible to get rid of too.

Jap knotweed is a weed in every sense of the word . Believe it or not there is a variegated hybrid that is sold in nurseries. It is attractive though. With green and gold markings. There is a variegated hybrid of gout weed that has green and white markings that people buy. But it spreads uncontrollably. If someone found a way to hybridize kudzu and give it green and white variegation it would sell like hotcakes.
