i've never made a spore print, so i wanted to see if i could make some spore prints from some wild mushrooms and unfortunately this is the best my microscope could do. she's gonna have to remain for trichomes

i think it needs to be at least 1000x to see spores

Start by watching the 4 parts of the PF tek video at http://letsgrowmushrooms.com and from there start reading up at the forums of http://shroomery.org!

Tons of information on that site!

if i made it look easy it was an accident. really any success i've had so far is due to a combination of good advice and luck

my first suggestion is to learn about the two growth stages of the mushrooms (mycelium, fruiting), like when you learned about veg and flower with cannabis

then start to learn about the different methods for nurturing these growth stages. as you can see from my log popcorn is a good beginner's grain to grow the mycelium on

swishsweet more or less said the same thing as me. except he gave you links. shroomery.org is a remarkable source of information for growing shrooms

my biggest recommendation, as far as eliminating aggravation, is to get a pressure cooker

last thing i gotta say is that compared to cannabis, this is easy (once you know what your doing... not when you're at my nooby level), and less hassle. and comparatively free to grow

this is what they look like today

things got a little crazy after I shook them up the second time

what is the teal colour on the second one? mould, or bruising? I can only find sources which say mycelium of active species can bruise blue and this popped up over-top of already colonized kernels. also it isn't spreading. so I didn't want to jump to any conclusions.

I am thinking that these are looking almost ready to go... but I am not sure. what would you do?

I can't really tell from the pic as I'm still learning like yourself. I'd say open up the jar and give it a whiff to see if it is stinky when your'e about to put em in the fruiting chamber. Make sure to do it outside though so you don't spread potential mold spores!

i went over to shroomery.org and asked what they thought

they tore me up pretty bad for using corn, and for the second one being contaminated (they said it's mould)

but I did also get out of them that they need a bit more time to be 100% colonized, and the healthy ones look alright. so that's cool

Nothing wrong with corn. It's simple to use, and when you're new to grains it's easy to work with. You get less surface area to colonize you substrate so you have to use more. I used it years ago with good success.

i don't see how bad it could be if i could wrangle it together and have some work

Nice! Glad you got some info out of them lol. Sorry about the mold but it sounds like you'll definitely see the fruits of your labor once you're fully colonized. I'm finally subbing to this thread, I like where this is going
