hehe, yeah I don't really want the first one to dump its load all over the rest of them so I'm aiming to pluck at least most of the first ones right before the veil fully opens.

despite that I do plan on taking prints with some of the later mushrooms so I can work with some agar and syringes and repeat this whole process.

you're right about how they grow so fast. I don't know man, weeds don't grow this fast it's creepy to check up on it every couple of hours and actually notice visual progress.

rather than try to take progressional pictures, I just set up a time lapse camera

I think you need to grab so buddies next weekend and go someplace in the midle of nowhere build a fire and experiance what a miracle the mushroom is.I am a pyro and wathcing the coals breathe and the flames lick is for me the best trip setting I can have. I know you mentioned earlier about bad trips and all you realy need is a place you can relax and enjoy. I have been trippin for 20 years and my preferance is not to be in a crowd of people because I eat enough at a time to be flat out smashed without any way of being able to comprehend what is going on why I trip the most at home or the lake. Please dont eat 2 grams and try to dose up eat 3.5 or 4 grams dry and forget about dosing later. That will be enough for you to step out there without being overwhelemed.IF by chance you feel out of control just lay down and call it a night and go to sleep. Enjoy your hobby and keep on reading the knowledge train never stops if you stop it passes you by. ENJOY and I am thrilled for you I rember one of your very first posts about shrommin and I hope I have teased you enough that you will keep on learning. hokay sooo...stats, wet grams, dry grams, flushes etc?!?!? What kind of substrate are you using, whats your spawn:sub ratio and what are the dimensions of that pan? lookin good thus far!

I ended up getting 7.5 grams off of the first flush, and even my junk tray is growing some nice fruits

I just read through all 13 pages and it looks like I did in perfect time. hahah, it was like reading a book from start to finish. Glad to see you got your first fruits. I'm in the planning/ early stages of my first grow.

It definitely helped. I think I'm going to try this "exact" tek. I like the idea of not having cakes that raise the height requirement. Also this way you need half as many jars

With the filter paper, are you using a very fine tipped needle for inoculation?

I did, but I wasn't very sterile. I actually just opened the jars after pressure cooking to inoculate. I had a mask on and a hepa filter running in the room, but 2 of the 4 jars contaminated.

I'm considering after sterilizing the jars, obtaining a small bus tub - cleaning the hell out of it - and then getting something really stretchy (l could always order some extra extra extra large condoms!) throwing everything inside of the bus tub, covering the tub and doing all of the work through whatever I put over top of it. Basically making a small sterile environment. I might put two layers of filter paper on and slightly moving the bottom piece of paper to inoculate each side and finally simply removing the top piece with the holes before finally moving each jar into it's environment. Should be fun because I plan on keeping a few cultures around too.

You mean like a glove box? You can just get some dish gloves and a rubbermaid. Allegedly.

I have some Brasil Spores on the way and i have a few question's.If I use the BRF substrate. am I limited in the size of the cake?Seems like they use all kinds of sizes.I was thinking of making one big cake 8 X 8 in and dosing the hell out of it.Let me know....I could make a couple of 4 X 6's maybe using high heat plastic.I'd like to get some advice, this is my first Shroom grow but not my last.

i've heard of a lot of people using high heat glad ware. i myself used a plain little tupperware container to put my extra substrate and a little bit of colonized grain into. it colonized fine, and has fruited 2 flushes already. you could in all likelihood do this with brf cakes or spawn, but i think that, when you are working with liquid culture syringes, it is recommended to inoculate smaller 'cakes' to give the mycelium the best chance at colonizing the cake before contamination sets in. and then, if you want, you can break up those smaller cakes into chunks and inoculate a larger 'cake' or substrate with those later on, the same way you would break up and use grain spawn.

Yeah. What the Mankey has stated. There is a user on RIU by the name of Batcave. He has a long thread in this section. He uses large cakes and fruits them in a sort of "Martha" or enclosed environment. He makes his in bags. They naturally form into cakes. They are not ordinary. They consist of W.bird seed, pcorn, turkey litter (poultry manure), etc. Just check it out.
