His pieces sell for tens of thousands. He's nearly completely anonymous and has a huge amount of street cred. I love him!

I heard it's because he looks like Quasimodo and knows that his brilliance would be passed over due to the superficiality of the world we live in...or maybe he's too good looking?

I think that the fact the the NY graffiti artists ran around and defaced his work shows huge jealousies within the art. Either that or tagging in NY is more important that art. ??

Banksy- they hated you showing them how to spray. You smashed it!

Banksy is a very intresting artist but their are better dudes with way more skill. In LA and ny Banksy does a shit load of stencil stuff and his stuff is also alot more political. If dudes where battling tho banksy would get crushed. He just cant compete with a realistic top to bottom freddy Kruger ripping out of a subway car! I bet the crossing him out stuff had somthing to do with territory gang shit instead of art!

He doesn't have to. That's a completely different area of the market so to speak. Banksys work is hugely political, that's part of what he can do. The fact of the matter is that he is famous for a reason. Anyone can paint, it's about having the ability to create something that raises eyebrows and creates questions. His work is famous for a reason.

Lahada, I grew up in Bristol, lots and lots of banksy work. He did a huge exhibition there a few years back. Awesome stuff.

sometimes simplicity is best. its harder to make something simple that is perfect than a big crazy masterpiece

I agree but i was talking about a battle and ina battle he would get crushed by technical skill and can control. An example talking music wise would be two chains is famous and rich but brother lynch and x raided after all these years are nowhere near as famous or rich even tho they can verbally hold their own with the best rappers to ever touch the mic! But anyway yea banksys great.sunny what about a big masterpiece thats perfect!

The paintings are worth about $130,000 for all 4.
A lady bought two for $60.
He has sold his work from $30 to $1,800,000.
I think he is uncomfortable with how much his work sells for and is kind of making fun of himself.

Why sell a painting for $30 when you could sell it for $30,000?
That is a fucking artistic state of mind.
I respect that.

I would like to think that if I were walking by I would say, "Look at those knock off Banksys" and buy one.

I love Banksy. He's a really smart dude... and he's crazy. The way he presents himself to the public is the reason his paintings sell for so much, not because of his actual talent in my opinion. I mean yeah, the dudes talented, but it's stupid to me that some of his most simplistic work is his most famous. But he's done some really cool work.

Ps. My friends bought one of your pieces (girl with balloon flying away) from a shop in Soho before you were famous, many years ago. Think it was in '99. They only paid £500 and now they've insured it and put it in the loft (3 small children in house).
