Fox farms ocean forest mixed with fox farms happy frog... bag for bag...

Any decent organic mix made with coco and peat if possible... and then worm castings and myco is what you are looking for...

Local is good (best if you can find a good supplier) too...

Look up the basic ingredients of all the most popular soils and you'll see a common theme as far as ingredients, just find something similar...

Ive been having great success with 1/3 perlite 1/3 rough Coco 1/3 compost or EWC.

The plants that hit this mix (once its amended) look great, and Ive even brought back a really locked out yellowing plant full force after transplanting into my water only mix.
(using this base)

I buy the 4 cuft perlite bag, 2.5(+) cuft piece coir coco in giant bricks and use my own compost/ewc when Ive got it. Otherwise local EWC or quality compost is easily sourced.

If you have a yard, look into free clean wood chips off craigslist. Throw these in a pile for a few years and the resulting humus at in the middle/bottom of the pile is a great addition to any soil mix, and its a CHEAP/FREE way to make very high quality, simple, clean humus from a local waste product!

Just research what type of wood your getting, and start cooking!...(hardwood is the best)

Cheapest soil building Ive done, and the best results.

Fox Farm Happy Frog (2 parts) + Perlite (1 Part) + Worm Castings (1/2 Part) + Coco Coir (2 Parts). A "part" can be a bucketful, shovel, a cu. ft., a dump truck load or whatever measure you care to use depending on the scale of grow.

Hmm, there's that coco word again...I've seen some monster indoor ladies posted here using that medium

2 parts S peat
1 part EW castings
1 part perlite
D Lime at 1/3 cup per gal of above
1 handful of Epsoma plant tone.

The above is my blend, took a while to dial-in on the lime though.

It works well, but that coco keeps tempting me to experiment,:-P

Yes, coco is a viable alternative. I've gone with straight coco/perlite in past experiments with excellent results. Innoculate with Great White. Simple ferts included Botanicare Pure Blend Pro (Grow and Bloom), Liquid Karma, GO Cal Mag. Light solution of molasses added in last few weeks prior to flush. Well flushed, this give a very clean burning, smooth tasting bud when well cured. Recently revised my base soil recipe to include FF Happy Frog and worm castings in an effort to bring out a bit more intense flavor.
