Basic Noob Question

Malevolence

New Member
I have been growing a little over a year and still have questions about the breeding process.

S1 is selfed? Does this mean a plant hermied or was forced to produce male stamen and then seeded itself? What is an S2 then... the offspring of that selfed plant? Does S2 mean the offspring was also selfed?

F1 is a child? Would my 'S2' in the above scenario really be an F1 of an S1?

What does back crossing do? Is that where you take a child and cross it with a parent, and how does this process bring out the traits you want?

I hear the term 'open air pollenation' thrown around which sounds pretty self explanatory. What other methods of pollenation are there?

Thanks.

my buddy has it different pollens in mason jars and he paints it on with a brush and the puts a paper bag over the buud an a rubberband at the bottom the squirts it with water about half an hour later waits about an hour then takes off the bag. works great. its done both inside and out. just an idea good luck ninja

f1 is a cross i believe
s2 is a selfed plant selected from your s1's
just the way i understand it

you can just have a male freely pollinate aka open air
paint on pollen youve collected
or just put some pollen in a ziplock and stick a branch in there and zip it up and shake it
pinch some of it and sprinkle it on a bud
stick some in your NERF blaster and blast the plant with it bongsmilie all i could come up with

back crossing

is simply sticking the desired traits back into the parent which was selected for what ever reason
in a attempt to lock the traits in
