I just use mesh strainer ive used coof filtrers too they tell me the sludge in the bottlom leave there dont strain im told that part is very potent --yur thoughts plzz
No, not talking about the sludge. It's the leaf matter and buds that soak up butter...and if you don't squeeze that butter out...you are losing out on harvest. Lots of good butter there. I used to just use a piece of cheesecloth and wrapped all the material into a ball and squeezed the excess out. But to do that...you have to let it cool enough so you don't burn yourself. With the potato ricer...it has nice long handles to get good leverage. Designed 100 years ago and perfect for butter extration.

The sludge you refer to is not fat and so does not harden. Place newly formed cannabutter in freezer...remove it and wash any remaining sludge off under cold running water.

I place 2 zips on a huge cookie sheet in the oven @240 for 40 min. And 6 sticks of "unsalted butter" in the microwave to melt it down. I then place the tray in the freezer for 5min. I put the mix into my Magic butter machine @ 160 temp for 2 hrs, strain through a cheese cloth. During all of this I have 24oz of chocolate bark or peanutbutter chips melted in "microwave". I mix 1cup of canabutter with the chocolate "very thoroughly" and pour the mixture into 2 ketchup style squeeze bottles. Then add the ingredients into my silicone molds and into the fridge to setup.
BTW, use product/buds of 15 - 20% thc for best results. My personal preference is unsalted butter vs organic coconut butter, its seems to have better/quicker results once consumed. Cheers

I suspect our techniques are totally different. If I don't squeeze the leafy material, my yield would be down 25%. I am not using many buds. This is accumulated leaf and trim. Many tutorials call for squeezing. That's where I got the ricer idea which works great.

I have started using the double bath method with mason jars and have not looked back. Simple method on the stove, Keeps the bottoms from burning. I can make both butter and oil at the same time. Just get a large pot and a candy thermometer and fill it to about 3-4 inches deep. Get the water in the pot u to 180 degrees F* steady. I usually wait to make sure temps are where they are. If I am making something like butter that I want to melt first I just used the bath to melt it in the mason jar. Then add your decarbed material. Take out and stir the jar occasionally. Can cook for however long you wish. I usually go 3-4 hours. Afterwards you just strain the jar into another jar and you have some solid product. Pour alcohol in your already used dirty jar, close the lid and shake. And voila, clean!!! I love this method. I have made some butter and olive oil as well as tincture using this method. The butter and olive oil I cooked with the lids on the jars while the tincture you want to keep the lid off. Can cover the top of the jar a little to slow down evaporation. Again, afterwards I just used a swig of the grain alcohol to swish around in the jar to clean.

Most of the listed methods will suffice. However, the chlorophyll will transfer. Even with the more advanced equipment like the Magic Butter Machine.
Here's the trick folks.
1. Purchase high proof ethanol "Everclear" will do.
2. Place your product of choice in a Mason jar.
3. Pour the ethanol into a separate Mason jar.
4. Place both jars into the freezer for 24hrs.
5. Remove both jars and lids.
6. Pour the ethanol into the jar with product.
7. Place the lid on the jar and gently swirl/swish, allowing the ethanol to saturate the plant material.
8. Place back into the freezer for 5 min.
9. Remove from freezer and pour contents into a huge glass container and be sure to use coffee filters to filter out unnecessary material.
10. Repeat step 9, 3 times to clarify ethanol thc mixture.
11. Place into your method of choice (slow cooker, double boiler, etc) and place outdoors for proper ventilation.
12. Monitor substance and allow for the ethanol to boil off for edibles or leave it in liquid state to be used as a tincture.
13. If using equipment such as the (Source Turbo), 95% of your ethanol can be saved for future runs.

These techniques will provide you with golden colored product w/o the chlorophyll and other plant matter.
Cheers

Anyone here ever decarboxylate the oil and not the weed. In this case, you infuse the oil (without decarbing the bud), then, decarboxylate the oil using a pyrex dish in the oven at, say, 250F????

yes, and the more times you do it the more the affects will change to a more narcotic high. I would take my dish out and freeze it and do it over to taylor the affects to what I wanted.
