I use House and Garden Nutes. While pricey, they are very concentrated and clean. I don't think I used any cal-mag at all during this run. I think what you feed your girls makes a difference.

Here is another cool thing. You can write H&G and they will send you a sample kit of their entire line. Pay shippping of $20. ANother Nutrient Company, Rock Nutrients will do the same thing, only no shipping. I told them I wanted to run a side by side and they sent me a sample kit.

My point, is that you can probably try a run using H&G nutes for $20. Just make sure you go to their website and grab their DWC feed Chart. I adjusted downwards anyways before it came out, but when it came out it was pretty much the levels I was feeding, so I follow it (mostly). I don't use as much of the Algen Extract because it is thick and dark. Also, I have been using 2 other products when I get to the end. Cha-Ching by Foxfarm and I've been using Blossom Builder in the last 3 weeks. This is my first run using the Blossom Builder.
