go to hb-101's usa site and request free sample.. when u get 5 vial samples use it in a gallon of water and germinate. if one pops and it turns out to be fire call it "Strocat's Solution"
Wow, this is just too easy not to give it a try. We have so many seeds...
That's a good strain name! Or-- Strocats Strut. I haven't even considered it, but if we do get some plants with good genes, we will almost certainly have to name a new strain. If we get into this and find we've opened Pandora's Box, I will likely have to reach out to a local expert breeder.

Also you guys shouldn't germinate in paper towels if you can help it, Yes it works and I do it from time to time too with proven genetics and fresh seeds but when you do it if you dont get a chance to plant it immediately after the tap root comes out , you can damage the tiny little root hairs on the root and kill the seedling. The best way to go is to place it in water or soil .
WRONG! soaking can work, many do it wrong, with the wrong water(s)! The big thing today is that many big name seed breeders are now telling you NOT to pre-soak seeds,,,,,THEY DROWN easily!

Do NOT use distilled water or water that has been left out to get rid of chlorine - etc. No bottled waters!
WHY?
They lack the dissolved oxygen needed to pop that seed! The seed needs that o2 to properly keep going after the seed even cracks!

You can add a few drops of H2o2 but, it actually dissipates quickly......Skip soaking and try other methods!

I support the gibberellic acid method for OLD SEEDS!

a dope addict killed him for a couple grand in his wallet. The kid was supposed to be "family" , a 19 year old punk who needed a needle full and i guess saw it as the only way to get it, Fucked up part is he only got to spend about 100 bucks of the cash before the state police nabbed him nodded out in the parking lot of a kmart. now he is doing life at 19 years old.
Man, I'm sorry that happened to him. The fallout from murder goes deep into the family of victims. I hope you all are able to find some peace.

Great info, and just the feedback I was looking for! This is the second suggestion I have heard about scoring the seeds with sandpaper / abrasive. So the aim is to scuff the seam of the seed, to help open it up? Very clever.
I read on another thread just like a week ago, about lining a match box with 150 grit and shaking for a full minute. I think the scoures help asorbe water

Not bad info at all! Some strains have seeds that have rather thick seed hulls. So think that they don't pop well! This helps some of those out.
There are a cpl of strains that it's even better to carefully take a sandpaper nail file and scratch the seam of the seed it's self - all the way around!

The Columbian is what caused the price spike from $5 to $35 per lid.. price has been going up ever since... haha I've been told the stories too. I'm sure there are plenty here who can tell the stories first hand.
Yeah, I remember when 10 or 20 bucks would buy a lid of A. Gold but in the late 60's the Red was floating around and all of sudden they wanted 30 bucks. After that I didn't search for weed that much since acid was really good back then.

Soaking FOR SURE works ... with ALL seeds I have done many side by sides in my outside gardens and germination rates are much better and faster.. the seeds I most recently popped, we're opening after only 24 in my well water (no chlorine here) one day in the moist paper towels after that and they were 100% ready! I will always soak my seeds

I want to way in on soaking and paper towels, for me I've had bad experience with both ( my fuck ups I'm sure ) so I like rapid rooters in a humidity dome . With my t5 .

I'm sure my problem was cold temps and moisture control ( too much or too little ) and not enough attention being paid to it . But I get great germ rates with the RR and HD with a little kelp water in the bottom of the tray

Thanks to all for some great info!
It looks like I will need to have at least a half a dozen or more test groups just to get down the basic variables that will impact the germination rates. I really don't want to waste any seeds, so I'm going to proceed with caution. First off will probably be a small control group with tap water / paper towels / heat mat.

I understand there is now a test which can profile some gene markers in cannabis seeds, which can pinpoint a landrace strain-- but it's a destructive test which kills the seed. We don't know what seeds in this stash are from the same plants, and the tests run about 450$ per batch of 4, so it looks like we will have to do this the old fashioned way. I am confident we will get some germinations, and hopefully some females. Any males we get will also be cloned and saved for possible future breeding experiments. Once we have actual plants, we can take samples and have tests run for prime gene markers. From my friend's description of what he was smoking at the time, I am expecting a lot of landrace sativas in the batch, plus who knows what else.

I will probably start up a new grow journal post, as Meangreengrowmachine suggested. I still need to sort and count the stash into batches. I will post some more photos and info when I'm underway.

That is so cool!! I was down at my Mom and Dads last year looking for a vitamin container that I had which was filled with Columbian Gold seeds from the late 70's. We used to buy an ounce for $80 back then. Took all the seeds, which we called popcorn, out before we rolled up doobies. Otherwise you would get an exploding joint. No luck with the find though. Good luck!!!

I think you need to re-read my post , I absolutely agree with everything you said. Soil is the way to go, That being said when I soak a seed in a glass of water I use carbonated water , Even then the risk of drowning is greater. the natural way of doing it is the real way to go. Nature knows her shit :) BB
