Before THC becomes Delta 9 THC, what is it?

Natural THC IS delta-9 THC.
Here's a biosynthetic scheme ...

(geranyl pyrophosphate) (olivetolic acid)
(cannabigerolic acid)
(THCA)

However I don't think the acyclic precursor (cannabigerolic acid) accumulates to a large degree, except in ditchweed/hemp.

Ripe but not overripe trichomes contain mostly THCA. Heat knocks that back to THC. cn

Thanks.

I know "Delta 9" is what is refereed to when you say "THC", I was just wondering what form it was before that...

But you answered that too,
So thanks:D :D :D :D

Like the milky white, instead of the amber
just for good Measure.... The Milkey white IS the ^9-THC, the Amber is CBN after the THC has oxidized and degraded...

The Predacesor to ^9-THC and ^8-THC is Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV)

Respectfully disagree. THCV is chemically distinct and shares the synthetic pathway of THC but uses a propylated resorcylic acid as a component.

Trichomes that are going amber contain some CBN but the major portion is still THC and THCA. cn

This is THCV ... note the bobbed sidechain.

yup, THCA is the reason vaping and smoking work to convert it to our friend, THC. I like THC. I wish it came in bottles like maple syrup so I can pour some onto my pancakes every morning.
