what difference does it matter if you kill 20 people over 2 years, or you kill 20 people with a big bad "assualt rifle"? do the parents of the choked or stabbed victims grieve less?

my point is simply that semi automatics with high capacity magazines are the preferred tool of mass murderers. it's a pretty boring point.
the only difference as i see it is that it's much more likely that the serial killer is found out and stopped before he gets to victim 20, whereas the guy who walks into a movie theater with an AR15 and a 100 round DRUM of bullets can get to victim 20 in a matter of seconds, maybe minutes.
