Beginner guitar songs

Great thread! I've been playing, off and on, for about 45 years. One of the first songs every guitarist learned back then was House Of The Rising Sun.

I'm currently in an "on" phase, playing pretty much daily for the past couple years. It's funny though, I have noticed that when I leave it in the case for a couple years, when I do take it out I can soon do stuff I could never do before. Not suggesting that as an improvement method however :)
I've been getting back into playing my acoustic. I pick it up once or twice a day after work and jam out some Dave Matthews or Ben Harper

I was on a plane and a van ride with Leon Mobley who's toured with Ben Harper. He's a cool ass dude.

He's the dude on the drums. He bummed me a couple cigarettes and helped me find my way home :D

You can pick up a nice Fender Jazz Bass on Craigslist for usually $350-600. I love the Fender Jazz probably my all time favorite bass. I played one for years. If you don't need some super sick stacked amp, I recommend a nice little Ampeg that can be had for $150-500.

edit: if you want to spend a little extra you can get better models of the jazz bass. Here's one close to me

Fucking Geddy Lee model, they have a slimmer neck so they're hella easy to play.
I'm a fan of the slim necks.. my fingers are strong they can do the extra work ;)

Yeah I don't know the basses but those are pretty much the prices I was expecting for a decent one. I'm definitely looking for a possibly wooden jazz bass... I'm not doing death metal /rock type shit so I'm looking for a nice, clean, jazz oriented bass. I don't need a crazy amp! I'm thinking $200-$250... something nice that will last!

I will have to look on CL. I might just go to guitar center looking for new... See if they can negotiate prices at all.... cash??

yeah man, if you're looking for a bass like that then it's always good to look at the Fender P or J basses, you'll probably want an active electronics just for a smoother sound and broader range, but make sure you try it out and make sure it's the right sound. I actually ended up buying a Music Man Sterling Custom that has active and i can get anywhere from rock and grunge to jazz and bluezy sounds...

oh and another beginner song thats easy would be The Beatles - Magical Myster Tour
it'd be badass if you could learn CSN - See The Changes
Oh and I don't konw if anyones said it but it's always a classic by Hendrix, i remmber jammin it back with my highscool band SO many times

A lot of black sabbath stuff is real easy. The white stripes also have a lot of songs that are easy to play. And there is always smoke on the water. :P

You can usually convince them to sell you a floor model. I got my fender strat with an tiny ding on the back for $200 off the sticker price.
