If you're a newbie start off with a sterile system and learn the ins and outs of hydroponics.
A sterile system is cleaner and relatively easier to maintain overall.

I have ran both and find running beanies is really no different than so called sterile. Not really into tea though, just some hydroguard and just starting to use pondzyme after a few years of running Microblift.
