Thank you guys,

I will put the rockwall cube 3/4 up in the net pot and bring the water about an inch above the bottom of the netpot. I will add the tea around the hydroten once I transplant and the recommended dosage into the system.

Do you water the hydroten until the roots leave the netpot. Also do I need to pre treat the hydroten, does it need soaking in any pH water?

I will make the tea tonight, then transplant in 48hrs.

the bubbles popping on the surface of your water should be enough to water the roots (wick effect)


and presoaking your hydroton in ph water wont do any harm...... But the water you clean them in should be ph'd anyways :)

the bennie tea should clear all your problems up , iv heard good things about this method

I keep the bennies out of hydro. Keep them for soil. Also I don't run any sterilizing solution, other than in my clone machine. (Well water,I add calcium hypochlorite)

I think your temps and hydro system have a lot to do with it. I can get away with higher water temps in flood and drain with tables than someone running rdwc. Basically if your running any hydro system where your plants are constantly sitting in water(dwc,rdwc, I'm sure there is more) and can't control your water temps, sterilizing the water is a great solution. Other than that and special circumstances it isn't needed.

I wasn't getting any alerts to this thread. I just tried Zone for the first time in years. I usually use nothing. My roots were bright white after putting them in the undercurrent system with some residual bleach. I used bleach to clean things out. My roots were fine. I added 1ml/gallon Zone, and they got tan and pissed. I added more Zone to try, and fix it. (2ml/gallon total) My roots are brown now.

I drained and refilled with base nutrients only yesterday. 16 days veg and I have 1/2 dead plants. I have a friend up the street that uses UC Roots, and his roots are bright white.

Nothing, pool shock, or bleach? I'm going to look into pool shock and bleach more. But, for now, I think I'll stick with nothing.

I had the same experience with zone. Well, it actually seemed to work for the first week or two. But then the roots got kind of brown so I went back to the pool shock. All good again.

Its seems to me (from experience) that if rollitup sends an alert to a thread, and you miss it or dont click on the alert, it wont send you any more after that, when someone replies to a thread.....Did that make any sense?

Ok,

I have a single cutting in a 6" netpot, the cutting was taken from a small solo cup in coco, i washed 90% of the coco off. the roots were about 2" long and a fair few.

The water level was taken up to the bottom layer of the hydroten. then i put the cutting in. I then poured 1cup heisenburg tea around the stones and rockwall and 1cup per 10gallons of the water.

It has been 2 days, still the roots have not left the hydroten, do i top feed or just leave alone?

I don't know anything about using teas, but a 6" net pot is pretty big and it usually takes more than a couple days before the roots will come through the bottom. I top feed them.

I had to scrap the clones. Three weeks of watching clones die. The roots were completely brown with a little bit of fuzzy white up top keeping it alive. I replaced all the clones. Then, the next day those had brown roots. I drained and refilled the system. This time I kept the water level below the netpot. I normally have the float valve set to keep things just below the netpot anyway.

Now that the water level is below the net pot, I see bright white healthy roots growing out of the netpot today. I would like to understand this. My friend uses store bought Current Culture systems. He keeps his water level high, and has healthy white lateral roots.

When I put the clones in, and the water level was high, they immediately looked droopy and pissed. Like an overwatered plant in soil or something?

I am exactly same as you.

I had a clone that wasn't doing anything, I had water level just below the rockwall. 3days and no roots, I pulled out the clone and the roots were mushy and brown. I added another clone and similar issue.

So I've lowered the water level to just touching the net pot. I was always focusing on other problems as to why I kept facing in dwc. I'm starting to think all along it was incorrect water levels and the rockwall staying too wet.

Very strange! But glad you found the right level for your system. I can only assume that the rockwool plug you were using was wicking too much water up and keeping the rockwool too wet. As if there is enough oxygen in the water, the water level shouldn't really matter too much (as long as the plug doesn't stay soaking wet)

i too haven't been getting the alerts and now i know why lol

anyways heres something to think about......... Iv got a small seedling (3rd node) in a 10lt bubbler , 1ppm of hyprochlorite and 21°c <<< which is high Imo.

the roots and the plant look healthy as possible:)


anyone know any downfalls for this temp? Because i don't yet .



Ps ..... If i don't get alerts ( even if it is my thread lol) I'll update with some pics of the progress.
