I use both. They are both great soils but Ocean Forest is a bit hotter than Happy Frog. I even use Light Warrior for starting seeds. Great products IMO.:bigjoint:

I'm currently growing in Happy Frog. this is my first soil grow. (making the switch from DWC/Drip hydroponics) I'm HAPPY as the frog on the bag! lol
They're still young only been in the soil for about a week. But WOW! The soil is definitely rich enough. They look strong as any of my young girls did in hydro with the 1/4 strength nutrient. Actually, they look BETTER than hydro girls at this stage!

better soil with ferlilizers and compost????
Bringing compost indoors is not such a good idea - lots of bugs & critters live in compost piles & you could very well end up with pest problems. Plus if the compost isn't broken down well you might find the smell more than you can tolerate.

one part FF Happy Frogs
two parts FF Ocean Forrest
one cup (handful) Sphagnum Moss
one Tablespoon Dolomite lime (per gallon)

I use Happy Frogs for seedlings (good for 4 to 5 weeks) then put them in the above mix, works great! :bigjoint:

I'm not an expert but this is how I understand it,,,,,,,,,

If anyone knows better please share!

I got the recipie from a tomato growing forum :bigjoint: (they share thier secrets more without argueing)

my understanding is that the ph of the Sphagnum moss is 4.5 so it lowers the soil ph but adds to water retention and drainage

Lime raises the ph but does so slowly, kinda like time released

Dolomite lime has mag/co in it and is used by some to fix a mag/co defficiency

EVERYTHING we add lowers ph, mollasses, nutes, etc. over the grow period without the dolomite we take a chance on the soil ph going to low because of what we have added

So as we add the nutes and stuff the water is also activating a bit more lime to buffer or compensate and keep ph levels right

Plus it is reccommended in every gardening book I have ever read :bigjoint:

Edit, I also add 1 inch of perlite in the bottom of the pot before adding soil

that makes perfect sense! i didn't consider the effect on pH the moss would have!
as i first read it, i saw "tomato growing" and thought eh... then i read about the moss.
that sounds like a damn good mix the more i think about it. especially the lime buffering pH over time.
i water with 6.5 but you're over time the soil will adjust... +rep!!

FF is the shit! soil makes all the difference in the grow.. Theres a pet/garden store around here that sells the whole line of FF. soil, fetilizer, nutes..everything. they also have bags of chicken manure and compost, so I like to get a bag of each, (all in all costs about twenty bucks) and mix it together. then the FF nutes and supplements down the road, and you're golden :bigjoint:

I have been using moonshine mix for a bit and love it. All I do is water when its dry and sometimes add some BMO Super Plant Tonic and molasses I add no other nutrients. If you have never heard of it I found the recipe on icmag.com Here is the link http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=23970

Here is the mix
1 Bag Fox Farm Ocean Forest
1 Bag Fox Farm Planting Mix (guano/castings)
1 Bag Fox Farm Light Warrior
1 Bag Black Gold
1 Coco Brick(small brick)
1 cup peace of mind (for flower)
2- 5 gal buckets of Fox Farms Chunky Perilite

This stuff works great and you can feel the difference in the soil its light and airy but holds good and even moisture. This mix gives you super tasty buds and actually costs less per cubic foot then straight Fox Farm Ocean Forrest too < at least where I'm located. And you never have to feed it any other nutes.
