REALSTYLES DIY COB lights are great, but im looking for premade.@REALSTYLES said the same thing as his 14 Mars lights were in the mail. There's a recent thread here showing a video of him smashing his MarsHydro lights in a dumpster. (Be sure to use eye protection. He's lucky he didn't put an eye out.).
You should buy one and show us how it works. It's not a lot of money to lose. It's better than paying a premium for the rebranded epi-whatever lights sold by HydroGrowLED, Lush, Kind, BlackDog, GrowBlu.
I would stay away from Platinum simply because he ripped off AdvancedLED's name and reputation. I don't know what he does now. But, for about a year it was an *obvious* name ripoff, using AdvancedLED's photos, etc. Someone like that is antithetical to this hobby, 420, etc.
Other than those two caveats, I don't think you can go too far wrong. (The Mars Cree "Pro" lights look like a gamble to me, considering the alternatives like A51.).
My point was, he was humping MarsHydro's leg too, lots of nice grows he'd seen, etc. A year later he's risking his eyesight at the dumpster.REALSTYLES DIY COB lights are great, but im looking for premade.
I generally trust them here no doubt. Seems they have upgraded since then.My point was, he was humping MarsHydro's leg too, lots of nice grows he'd seen, etc. A year later he's risking his eyesight at the dumpster.
A51's are great. Lifetime warranty (replacement parts at wholesale). That Tasty product looks good. I've been gone for a few months, I'm not up on the latest and greatest. I would trust the voices here.
And All This Time I Thought A SockPuppet Was A Cousin To The JackRagCareful who you listen to,lots of these on the forums.

I am not arguing that the Cree CXB3590 are bar non for growing Commercial.Well, I'll admit that I'm biased. I'm biased towards buying the very best at a given price point. My last lighting purchase was comfortably over five figures- that's just counting left from the decimal.
For such an investment, I insisted on the very best; Cree CXB3590 COB LED chips, with Meanwell IP67 rated drivers. The heat sink is a rather solid chunk of metal I'm not worried about failing, lol
What my money bought boils down to three specs; 56% efficiency with 824PPfd, covering 144 ft².
You can get the very same top quality Cree CXB3590 chips and Meanwell drivers I did from both TastyLED.com and Johnson Grow Lights. Their case and sizing philosophies differ somewhat- a good thing!- but the guts are made from the good stuff.
I'm on record all over this forum as saying blurple panels are obsolete, occasionally in less than kind terms! The name of the game is EFFICIENCY, or PAR/watt. The chips I mentioned above as driven are far more efficient than both those older blurple panels and anything that runs a light bulb, full stop.
This isn't just a hobby for me; being ahead of the technological curve in indoor growing is my JOB. If everyone here who has run them is to be believed, they're going to put HID out to pasture in five years or less. My own plans are in fact to scale the technology and see what happens as such arrays get bigger.
No one ever said that about the blurple disco toys. At least, not AFTER they ran them, lol
A51's are low-wattage because they're efficient. You can join them together to create your own monolithic panel. I would invest the effort of hanging the individually for more coverage. I'm sold on bathing plants from more angles, not a single point.Area 51 wattage are very low and I know they are using COB now but I need a bigger light.
Im using a 3 x 3 grow tent currently.A51's are low-wattage because they're efficient. You can join them together to create your own monolithic panel. I would invest the effort of hanging the individually for more coverage. I'm sold on bathing plants from more angles, not a single point.
With those, you only need about 25-30w/sq ft. One unit covers 3.3 sq ft. So, just do the math for how many you need. Join however many together as you're comfortable hanging as single units. (But, I'd keep them as separate as possible.).
How would that price compare to Mars Pro?
There's a bunch of them right over on the LED section.I am not arguing that the Cree CXB3590 are bar non for growing Commercial.
Im looking at personal use growing.
Someone really needs to start making Cree CXB3590 for sale.
You know a good tutorial on building a 1k equivilent with Cree CXB3590 ?
I have so much free time, I should do that. I'd just have to immerse myself in the threads to learn how it's done, where to get the parts, etc. I haven't been following the COB stuff because I don't need new lights. I've got A51s, Blackstars and a lot of Cree lightbulbs. Maybe I should sell some stuff and do a COB.You know a good tutorial on building a 1k equivilent with Cree CXB3590 ?
Well what is the best diy cob TUTORIAL that is easy to follow for a beginner with a descent amount of wiring experiance?
Thanks mate
Brought it back from the dead... at least hes thoughtful enough to keep us up to date with what Mars has been up to.. almost $1000 fukn dollar mars panel...zombie thread alert
