Best Mini Split heating for very cold winters?

Hello, wondering if any experienced folks can recommend me an appliance.
I'm not too concerned about using this ductless set up for cooling but that's a plus. I'm unfamiliar with brands but I've read that some can't make it through winters where it gets below zero. It's either this option or a baseboard heater which I've used with success. Thoughts?

I use my mini split for cooling even when it’s below 0. It is are rated down to 5 degrees but so far has worked when colder. I have fan back up cooling just in case. It really just depends on how low the temps go where your at, but they aren’t very efficient for heating when your in real low temps, but then again neither is a baseboard heater.

they have some nice models from mitsibushi and daikin that are for colder areas. Hyper heat and can’t remember the other models.

mitsubishi hyper heating .. i have one they are great. they keep a good performance coefficient even a low temps

or even better panasonic inverter "CZ" series "special heating'' .. pana is my fave because they have the best price/quality value, and good options like "mild dry" .. ionic air purification.. and A+++/A+++ on the ethereas

Senville has a -30*C unit. It's the aura series I think. They are also pretty budget friendly. And they have a whole article about grow rooms on their site.

.

I've had a mini split for 5 or 6 years, they're great when the temp gets as low as -5 C but lower than that there's less heat in the air to extract and the house isn't as warm. Have to use the oil furnace for a few minutes a couple times per day to take the chill off.

Great in the summer for cooling.

I've got 3x 4 ton senville mini splits rocking right now. Each with 2x 2 ton head units. No issues other than make sure you locate the head units in a way that you can access the filters on them regularly. I put mine up pretty high near the ceiling and I have a row of plants below them which means getting a ladder and accessing them during the grow is a pain. They've been running for about 2 months now with no issue. They're cheap and they operate down below freezing up here in Maine. The only other issue is controlling three of them in one room all simultaneously The Wi-Fi app and control is very spotty so do not rely on the Wi-Fi dongle to be reliable.

The community here continues to amaze me how helpful/thoughtful us stoners are! Thank you for leading me to the right purchases, I'll get studying and looking into these! Happy I don't have to hire an electrician to hardwire a baseboard heater now.

I just ordered another mini split today. I like my mr cool mini split because it saved me a couple grand not paying someone to install it since it was a diy unit. But I absolutely hate their main distributor Ingrams they are just so hard to get of and work with.

So I took a chance and ordered a klimaire mini split, they now have a diy version of theirs(line sets look the same design as mr cool in picture).

I really hated to do it since my mr cool has worked pretty well but I’m pretty sure ingrams drop ships for all the other sellers, and I’m done with that company.

Oh well at under 1800 shipped for a 3 ton diy unit I guess it’s worth the risk to see, cause I’ll be buying some more units.

Hope it works well for you! I still have some time to decide on one so we'll see if anyone else chimes in on here. Let us know how it goes partna.

I don't know where you are but you can buy Mr. Cool from Home Depot and pick it up at the store. Just finished installing a DIY one and so far really happy with it.

I did think about that, but was concerned it was drop shipped from ingrams and was afraid of a repeat of last spring where temps kept getting hotter and my ac took forever to get here.

and yeah I really like my mr cool too, although their 3 ton is only like 34500 btu instead of 36k btu. Wouldn’teffect many people but I’m right on the verge of overpowering mine. My other room is exactly the same so I’m hoping the one I ordered is as nice as the mr cool with a few extra btu.

I wish I trusted myself with flare fittings and doing the installs. I had a quote for all Mitsubishi units for my building and it was 18.5k. With the diy units I’ll be under 8k.

Id much rather have the better equipment and wouldn’t mind paying for it, but the install prices are just so high.

honestly I think we should all be looking at the ducted mini splits instead of ductless. I have a lot of fans but the wall mount units seem to always make cold spots in the room. Even if you don’t duct those units they move way more air and are higher up against the ceiling.

your right having to pay someone to install all your units is an expensive cost i saved $1500 doing it myself on just one unit vs paying someone to install it it took me 4 hours but i had to tear down part of a ceiling to get to the penetration in the wall for the lineset. hows this for an idea, get the higher quality a/c units. buy the diy line sets that are already flared with the connections on the end. mount all air handlers and condensors connect all the line sets to the air handlers run the line sets outside to each condensor then get all the power for each condensor hooked up and see about just hiring an hvac guy to charge all your splits that way he doesnt charge for the install.

I should have just bought the tools already. I’m always underestimating what I can do.

But I do have good news, my new unit will be here tomorrow. Delivery company just called. Way faster delivery than ingrams. I mean I just order it like 3 days ago out of Florida and I’m in Mi. I haven’t even done the wiring yet, was thinking it would be at least another week before delivery.
