Best potting soil?

The original version of the moonshine man mix I believe was equal parts of the Fox Farm soils Light Warrior, Planting mix, Ocean Forest, and a fair amount of FF Extra big and Chunky Perlite.
Of course that was a very old and simple version and there have been many changes over the years, it gets really complicated after awhile!

Black Gold and FF Ocean Forest are both two great soils. A lot of soil use comes down to what nutes you use, what strains you're growing, as well as personal preference. Basically, find some good suggestions and shop around. There is no "best."

It is a little high in nitrogen (the first number) for flowering. You would want something like 0-5-5 (not that exactly, but just as an example). Nitrogen is good when veg'ing, but isn't used much in flower production. You want to get higher concentrations of potassium and phosphorous. Also, remember that 'less is more' with nutrients, especially nutes with high numbers (weed can get burned easily with values over 10). Be sure to start with a small amount and work your way up to a higher concentration nute, you don't want to over feed it.

I use a 50/50 mix of MG timed release and perlite for my mothers, simply because it's super low maintenance. I would not advise that for trying to flower however.
