Best soil available at local stores?

I'm looking for a soil I can pickup at lowes or home depot (or any other retail chain) because ordering online is extremely expensive. I wanted FFOF, but at $40 a bag, NAHHHHH. I am willing to mix my own soil if that's what you guys would suggest is best for me.

Your looking at the wrong places for fox farm. It's usually about $10.00 a bag maybe a little more. That's at the hydro shops too.

If you go to fox farms online store indicator, you can find places that sell it.

There are a few greenhouses, landscape supply shops, and a hydro shop in my area that sell it. Usually runs me between $15-18 per bag, depending where I get it.

Then I also buy a big bag of B'cuzz soil less mix ($50) that I use to cut the FFOF with.
That big bag lasts me a long time, and it saves money cutting the FFOF.

Hey everyone thanks for all the replies! I just checked discount hydro, and it's $13 + $40 shipping to where I am :(

I am along the south coast, there are no hydro stores anywhere near! I think the closest is ~150 miles.

I'm out of luck!

Lowes has 3.8cf cs peat bales for 10 bux. 40lb. Bags of compost n manure for 2 bux.
40lb. Bags of peat humus for 3 bux.
Perlite is about 15 bux for 1.5cf
Garden safe brand organic soil 1.5cf for 5 bux. And(almost) all the ingredients to mix a decent soil.

Just my .02

Flower mix I used some of subs SS ingredients for what would be the equilivent to a 1/2 batch of SS, just used lowes soil, bone meal, blood meal, peat moss, and compost. Still had to hit the garden shop for the other ingredients and amazon for azomite.
Veg base is 1.5cf GS organic soil, .5cf each of perlite, bagged compost, ewc and peat. All cooked for 30+ days. 1/2gal pots for 2 weeks, then into 3gal pots filled a little less than half full of the "SS"ish mix with a 2" buffer zone.
I just started this run with this mix a cpl weeks ago but so far I'm liking what I see. Initial water @ transplant with thrive alive b1 green (forget the dose) but only water after that thus far. Everything is lush and green.IMG_20141021_164011.jpg IMG_20141021_164011.jpg

Very nice sir. I like the fact that you gave exact measurements of the ratios for your veg mix. What is GS soil?
That is interesting, just using a standard bag of soil for the supersoil mix. I bet it wouldn't be as "hot" either.
How much does that veg MiX make?
What do you use as your 2 inch buffer zone?
Did you flip as soon as you went into the 3 gallons?
What week are you?
Post some pics! Water only sounds amazing lol...@noob, I am not trying to jack your thread, I just think that this is exactly what advice you were trying to get.

GS soil is Garden Safe brand and I don't think its as hot either but I've never used roots so idk. This mix @ the givin ratios makes about 20 or so gallons but I needed roughly 50 for the transplant into the 3 gal so I planned ahead and pre mixed more. Buffer is just a 1" layer of base mix slighty mixed with the ss,then another 1"of base so I'm not transplanting right into the ss mix.ill be veggin for another 2-3 weeks now that I have transplanted so I'm @ about 2.5wks right now, few days into the 3 gal. That pic was about a week ago. I don't have any newer pix but I will eventually, when shit starts happnin. Strains are ghs white rhino, g13 purple haze and lost coast og emerald triangle I think.
