Be aware the FF OF is fortified and you will NOT need to feed any additional nutrients for 3-4 weeks average. I use FF OF myself and once I became aware of how loaded it is with N and more I have had excellent results with it.

At the hydro store they had a side by side comparison of Fox Farm Ocean Forest and Sunshine#4 the tomato plants grown in #4 mix where much bigger than the Ocean Forest plants. I got 3.8 cubic feet of the #4 mix for 33 bucks and 1.5 cubic feet of Ocean Forest cost 15 so you get a little more soil for your buck with the #4 depends on where you buy it. About nutrients I strongly recommend Sensi Bloom for veg and bloom which has calcium in it making unnecessary to use a cal mag supplement. And two more things Great White Mycorrhizae and a bio catalyst like Fox Farm Big Bloom or Botanicare's Liquid Karma. Make sure to always balance the pH of your fresh water same as your nutrient solution. With those three nutrients and either Ocean Forest or #4 mix you will grow some good medicine.

Do you know of any nitrogen supplements? Without having to change soil? Couldn't adding some bugs and worms increase N levels?

#4 or pro-mix, best bang for buck, sterile, readily available. unless im doing a 100% organic grow i would never waste $ on Foxfarms.

Black gold is a premium potting soil with no ingredients in it. That means you can start feeding right away :hump:

Also I use FF ocean forest , I don't have to wait 3-4 weeks before feeding nutrients. The very first water on FF ocean forest is ph'd water and after that I use nutrients. Works like a charm.

I have used about half a bock of Wal Mart substrate growing medium. Has mycorrizhae already added but NO nutrients. A dream really. Did it when weather forced me to grow indoors this year and I bought FF OF. All was well until I unthinkingly transplanted 5 into larger pots after 2 months vegging under CFL into pots using new FF OF. Nute burn immediately using just straight water. Overcame that of course but who needs that? $40 for a 60-pound block here in AK. Has to be cheaper down south.

I'm not any nute freak. Just the opposite in fact. But you nute nuts can get your freak on at Wally World. Hurry before they close the garden sections.

Black Gold is the shit!! I put in another bag of perlite and you're good to go. Excellent results. Can't complain.

Here is the deal dude. I've somewhat mastered FFOF so if you wish to take some advice here it is.

Do not use FFOF in your starter pot.
I use 100% FoxFarms Light Warrior, have a smaller bag to fill my solo cups. Germinated seed in that for 5-10 days, then transplant into a pot about 4-5 times larger, I go into a 5x5x6.5" square container. 50% FFOF-50% Light Warrior. Maybe add 10% perlite if you wish.

Then my second and final transplant is into my 5 gallon fabric pots. In those I use 75% FFOF-15% perlite-10% worm castings. Now just plain 100% FFOF with or without perlite is fine, but I recommend 10-20% perlite for sure to help with aeration and drainage.

No adding any nutrients until you hit about day 40 if you end up transplanting similarly and vegging that long.

A little grow nutes near end of veg/early flower and it's all bloom from there unless they begin to yellow too early in flower then you would need to fed grow again by week 4.

A MUST-You must add 1-2 TBS(tablespoons) of dolomite lime per one gallon of soil in the final pot. This will help with cal and mag, and pH stability. Being the lime doesn't kick in for 3-4 weeks and FFOF has enough eggshells and dolomite to keep you good in the smaller pots no need to add it until your final pot.

I would use nothing but FFOF in my indoor grows. Until you get some grows under your belt and can experiment with mixing your own soil if you choose to do so in the future, stick with FFOF.

I have no idea what nute system you will eventually use but I just used the Fox Farm kangaroots and Microbe along with a separate root enhancer called Great White(there are many brands) this current grow at about day 40 and it helped bigtime. I would also suggest using at least the basic FoxFarm nute system of Big Grow, Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom at a minimum, adding the three pack of solubles(Open Sesame-Beastie Bloomz and ChaChing) to this lineup will get you some big frosty buds. But the basic grow-big bloom and tiger is ok to.

I also suggest, and I'm suggesting a lot, is molasses. I use Earth Juice Hi-Brix but any unsulfured molasses will do. Fed from week 3-4 flower at 1-2 tsp per gallon of water/fed and end about a week before harvest at 1-2 TBS per gallon of water/fed. Fed every time you water/fed.

So much to learn and do.

Never water too often, never overnute. Start slow. Have fun.

Meaningless.

Bad Advice.
