Better Smell

Trousers, I am not going to argue with you anymore.

I'm surprised only 1 person even hinted at the "flush" as being the problem, even after you said you get some yellow and brown but mostly green leaves. Since you've ran these strains before you know how long they run, are you feeding until the last day? You should, 2 weeks prior to chop day, flush your plant with straight water (1 gal of water per gal of pot +1.... assuming your first flush is with a dry plant, a 5gallon pot would get 6 gallons of water ran through (the first gallon will most likely be absorbed in the dry media). You can do this in the bath tub to make life easier or do it with a shop vac handy. After that you will flush with PH'd water for the next few waterings, than I like to flush with straight water the last 2 waterings, the flushing forces the plant to use up all its energy it's stored. Another note, I go down to like 800ppm my last couple waterings prior to flush.

Consider switching from General Hydro nutes (which I've used in the past with great results) to General Organics line... better flavor for sure.
I use hydro so there is never a dry plant. What I figure would be a good flush would just be switching to 100% water no nutes for the last week or two. I'll give that a shot.

I'm a complete noob grower, so what I'm about to say is just experience with tomatoes... But I guess it could apply:

You asked for smell, not "healthier anything". Organics always smell and taste better at least as far as fruit is concerned. Source: family used to own organic foodstore, even the best hydro tomatoes I would eat from supermarkets have not the same taste as soil organically grown tomatoes from the shop or from local gardens from the village. Just my two cents.

edit: To actually try to answer your question in a more helpful way, maybe you could try some blackstrap molasses or pure honey in your watering? I don't know if you're allowed to add those sticky things in hydro though. Supposedly they work wonders, I haven't tried growing without it though so I can't tell you if it does make any difference.
From what I am reading it can be used in hydro with mixed success. I think I'll stay away. Some say they think it helped but not much of an endorsement and some claim its the worst thing for a hydro system, but thanks for the help!

My first grow, I didn't flush and it smelled putrid. I flushed my second one(same genetics) much better smell, much better taste and a much easier on the throat smoke.

You need to cure for at least one month for the aromas to develop and the hay-like smell to dissipate.

Flushing does not improve smell or taste or the health of the plant. Flushing is for those that overfeed their plants.
flushing unnecessarily stresses plants.

As has been said a good cure will bring out the taste and smell. Flushing will not help.

came back to the thread after a spell...I have a plant that just got jarred up. IDK what to tell you...seal the jar when I said to...within an hour you can open the jar and it'll smell good.

Don't over think it. You are removing moisture...slooooowly. Unless you add fresh material or water to the jar the process moves in one direction only. Too moist when in jars? When you open it'll have an ammonia/cat pee smell. IMMEDIATELY take them out and lay the material so it does not touch the nug next to it on a cardboard "tray". Leave on tray overnight in dark closet. Re-Jar the next day. (clean and dry the jars before putting the material back in) BONE dry. Remember we do not want to add moisture.

Nice dank smell when you open it? Then stick to re-arranging the buds in the jars once or twice a day and resealing. The jarring for me takes a week to two weeks before the moisture content stabilizes. Then you have weed that needs no maintenance. Just open the jar, take out a bud when you want to smoke and reseal. I'd still smell it to ensure there is no cat pee smell...but you are probably done by then.

One thing I noticed...you may be suffering from mild mold...I saw this because of how you described your curing method...you say when u first put into jars your first burb is 12 hrs away...if I read correctly...way to long..first series of burps should be @ every 2-3hr. If you don't open that jar until 12 hrs have past that moisture is sitting too long...

There are two potential culprits. I am using rock resinator for the first time as well but haven't completed a full run yet but a few plants I'm noticing a less potent smell than usual. They seem denser and more stiff but less resin and aroma than usual. This could very well be a coincidence because it's only on a few of the and I haven't finished completely to be able to weigh in more than my initial observation. What I suspect really is the problem is your drying method. I believe you are taking to the jars with too much moisture. You should only take off the loose long fan/water leaves and let them hang dry with oscillating fans until branches snap with a clear snapping sound when you bend them. Then you manicure them and put them into paper grocery bags until they get to the moisture level that you want them. This will give the perception that they're done but they're not because there is hidden moisture still locked inside. This is when you take them to the jars and begin the burping process. I assure you if everything else is A1 as you claim, this will rid you of that hay smell and bring the pleasant aroma that you seek... Thank me later...

Here goes with some haters hatin..a hater just has to hate you know.Try bud candy from AN..You will not need to use any other carb supplement when you use it.It is a carbohydrate with L amino acids in it So you will get a little extra energy to your plants. This will help the smell and taste of the plant. Also grotech makes a flush in different smells and flavors..For example they make a blue berry flush a pineapple flush and a citrus flush.Durring the last week a flush .It helps get rid of the nute salt build up around the roots and allows the plant to absorb the last of its energy from the leaves and rest of the plant(WHERE THE CARBS/.SUGARS ARE STORED AT.).This will also give you a much better burn and smoother smoke for sure. The flavored flush's made by grotech you would want to choose one that complements your plants flavor..THIS STUFF DOES HELP with taste and smell..for example if you were growing a blue berry or other berry flavored plant you would use the blue berry flush.A pineapple flavored plant the pineapple flavored one..The use of the blue berry flush seems to help every plant with some extra smell.
By the way for you AN bashers out there..Compare the price of ANs bud candy to the cost of dark energy and any other carb/amino acid product and you will find the AN cheaper..not just a little bit either.I hope this helps brother.
