Bicycle riding -

Anyone here into riding bikes? Road, mountain or BMX...does not matter the type, just riding.

I do a bit of road riding. Have an old Trek 1400 Aluminum (yes, it is ancient) that I do distance on. 50 to 60 miles is about my limit anymore, though I would travel farther when I was younger.

Gotten into mountain biking lately. Have a small group that enjoys it. Allows me to get to some cool smoking spots away from the areas where casual walkers would be.

Baked or not, it is a decent way to get around locally without supporting big oil. It is also a nice way to keep in shape.

I used to ride a lot when i was not driving, i'd normally ride 8 miles each way to work, i'd also ride about 4 miles to meet up with a hookup to get me some smoke, would have a nice joint on the roadside before heading home. N ot sure on the model but it was a nice Thorn and for anything a little bit country, i've got an old but trusty Kona Fire mountain

I'm in my twenties and still don't have a driver's license, but i have my dependable Panasonic roadbike. I have a tattoo of a bike on my leg, I guess you can say it's a symbol of my love.

I've also been running a bike collective for six years, and we collect old bikes as donations, and setup new bikes for anyone that wants one, for free. We get a lot of poor families, and it feels great see their kids, or the parents for that matter, super excited to get a nice bike for free. We also get homeless people, but because i also do Food Not Bombs, I know most of them and make 'em share a few bikes amongst themselves.

We also run a community bike ride each week with about 50 participants, it's really fun. Some of us get a little drunk, maybe roll up a few, and take over the street. There are also doctors and professors and shit that join in the ride, so we definitely keep it civil haha

i live in the suburbs of DC and i absolutely despise bicyclers. tax dollars gave them a 3 ft lane to ride in and they ALL ride right on the line, not to mention all the bikes on roads were their clearly should not be any non-motorized vehicles ... frustrating as shit

initially you didn't mention highways... I wonder why they would do that, clearly bicycles on highways isn't a good idea

We have a couple of routes that are cut off from any alternative and so bikes are allowed on short stretches of I-5 around me. I do not ride there are most automobile traffic cannot even seem to avoid hitting each other, let alone a bicycler. Sorry it is such a burden to you jwop, to have to share the road. I have crossed path with a few of like mind and they seem to be pretty pissed off at the world in general. Hope you are a bit calmer than they seem to be! Life to me is too short to despise anything.

UTA, that sounds awesome about the bike building program! I think there is something like that down here in SD, but I am not sure.

Sr. Verde, I do THAT too. I had a sport bike, but it was stolen late last year. Have not bothered to replace it. We have a problem with MC's getting stolen around my area. When they find the perps, it is always the same. Some "foreigners" driving around in a pickup tossing the MC's in the back. Now I only have an enduro and they seem to leave it alone.

Actually, by law, not legislation, anyone can cycle down any highway, hell, they can walk, dress up in a Chinese dragon outfit whatever they like. That is the law. The legal nature of it is a different matter.

I have issues with cyclists disregarding every road rule known, but if you run the fuckers over then you are in deep shit.

I hate huge clusterfucks of cyclists that cause mobile traffic jams.

Just because I am a Grumpy old **** I like to get in front of those "clusterfucks" then drive real slowly so THEY have to go round me and run the risk of being hit by traffic in the faster lanes ... then I do it again, did I mention that I don't like cyclists.

Did that in my youth. We took a few tabs each and headed out of Ocean Beach on our BMX bikes. We started coming into it about 3 or 4 miles from the house...and then came down about 20 miles north. We all made it safely, but do not remember too much of the actual riding.

Isn't that how the inventor finally experienced it's power? Took something like 200x the normal dose and went on a bike ride with his assistant following taking notes of the observations.

Road taxes only pay a small percentage of the cost of all the costs of the roads. Income tax subsidizes most of it. So everyone pays for the roads. I love when people get angry at bikers.

I ride about 20 miles a day, and try to stay off the roads when ever I can. But sometimes it's inevitable. It's awesome, even on a rickety old beach cruiser.

I ride baked all the time in the summer, its awesome. I ahve a Jeep so I have that for out of the way places that a mountain bike goes.
