The federal government consist of the people of the United States of America. You are suggesting people should not be held accountable for the choices they make in life. No one forced them to borrow the money, many who did borrow the money paid it back. It never will be and never should be my responsibility or anyone else's responsibility to support another one's mistakes or choices. Not holding people accountable for their choices in life is a slippery slope at best
So you don't believe in insurance?

lol your fake outrage is hilarious.

Why is there still a debate about Reagan's trickle down economics?
His own econ advisor called it voodoo economics back then, and yet it continued on.
Then the greed-mongering SOB, Alan Greenspan said in 2008 after the great
recession that he was wrong about trickle down, yet it continues. Is it lack of
common sense, or some other evil entity that's taking over our ability to think?
no mystery about it...the republicans instated it, and republican run businesses embraced it. now it has become the norm, and government has a hard time upsetting the norm.
they could pass tougher tax laws (which they just made a good start at), they could lock the minimum wage to inflation, they could make it easier for workers to unionize, they could pass laws about paid time off, and give workers a few rights....but they don't, because republicans and republican owned businesses would fight them tooth and nail, every step of the way. it will require serious worker unrest, trouble in the streets, something to draw the extended attention of the nation for anything meaningful to happen...that's what it always takes to get a fucking thing done in America, to already be in a state of easily avoidable emergency

When Trump talked about paying as little taxes as possible he said it was because he's smart. It's smart when rich people figure out ways to give the government less money. They all took PPP loans which were forgiven. But if the middle class gets a break it's a fucking disaster? Fuck that.

Well, I never made an argument about personal responsibility for the loans. I guess I just see it differently. That isn't really an issue that's on the radar IMHO if you watch what our money gets spent on. To me it's entirely an economic decision.

My hot take is that if we are going to pick and choose who gets student loan relief then the people that went to state schools should be up front, the crazy for profit unaccredited schools that already got their debts forgiven should have been at the back, private schools kinda in the middle...but I never met anyone that went to an ivy league school not on scholarship unless you know, they had a building named after them.

Edit: I think we should end online college and make it vastly harder to get in to regular ones, at the same time we need to stop having so many jobs where a college degree is necessary to walk in the door. A college degree shouldn't be the new high school diploma. Wages aren't keeping up with the cost of education and its getting to where it isn't worth it.

It’s getting crazy re the job market. Skilled trades here are desperate for people but companies won’t invest time or money training the kids properly. My most recent field has been light commercial and residential HVAC and the emphasis is not on skilled techs but sales techs. They are forced to sell and not repair, it’s fucked. My job was to train techs, not sales people. And that seems to have been enough to terminate without cause after 30 years and one year after a majority purchase by Gryphon :finger:. Gotta love my Harvard grad Lawyer though……once you get over the hourly rate:spew:

To be fair i'm not a rich person and i pay close to no income tax. That's why a good accountant and life choices are important.
The rules are there for everyone.

really, they aren't there for everyone, they're there for those who make enough money to make gaming the system worthwhile...the rest of us have to abide by the spirit of the law, while the wealthy wrote those laws to favor themselves, with the help of a few purchased politicians and a few soul-less lawyers.

Perhaps it’s different down under lol. I know here I pay a shit fuck load of taxes :(. Now if I could open a few trust funds and borrow off them as collateral then I would have no income …… shhh, it’s a secret lol. Then if I could move a few hundred grand to an off shore account and use that as play money for my many trips abroad well that would be just peachy. If I could incorporate and use the expenses for personal shit wouldn’t that be fantastic? Fuck me up the ass with a wire brush :(.

That sucks, it's like that in a bunch of fields now. I do banking/stock market related stuff and purposely stayed as far from sales as I could, but its sort of inevitable to get sucked in and it's one of the few safe areas in terms of layoffs/downsizing.

Would much prefer selling drugs, it was more honest. Just didn't want to sell people financial products they dont need.

My income tax for last financial year was $132. I'm self employed (a sole trader). I think my income was around 55k before deductions. I don't have a huge income as i'm semi retired. But yea .. a good accountant and setting the business up makes a big difference.
My wife got back 5k on her return.
Why pay more tax than you have to and if you can get them to pay you even better.

I either want:
Money as I paid off my student loan
Or $20k to go back for another degree.

Only seems fair to me. That could help me spend more.

I don’t like this loan forgiveness plan. Why can’t every American get $20k? That would definitely boost the American spending.
