If you put a CFL too far from the plants, they will strech as well.

its the 9th day and one has not even got going the other has 2 leaves coming out of the soil but it seems that the whole of the root is above the surface aswell?
i'm wondering if its anything i have done:
germinated them wrong - i started thenm in paper towels them swithced to shot glass method halfway through.
planted to early - just after the root tips had emerged and probably not long enough.
changed the light arrangement around too much - 2 warm white 14w cfl to start with them i put a 20w cool white cfl in to replace 1 warm white bulb.
my soil isn't right - 50% perlite 50% top soil.
what do you guys think?

doesn't sound wrong to me.
might have just planted them too deep or head down.
if the root (WHITE) is popping out, pull the seedling and arrange that.

what you mean actually handle it and try to put the root into the soil and the leaves sticking out?
i'm so paranoid of even touching it but you think if done carefully no probs mate?

If the root is left exposed it will react to the air flow and light and lose its tiny hairs and produce a defensive shell. It will become something like a stem - not what you want.
If your root, which is WHITE is popping out, CAREFULLY pick the seedling out of the medium and re-plant it, not compacting the soil.

I agree with Claptoman, you gotta be real, real delicate wiv dat s**t though man, dont touch the root tip.. Good Luck man..

got home from work to find that the bit of water i gave it this morning seems to have helped the seed right itself, that and maybe after 2 days its getting used to the new cool white 6400k combined with the 14w warm white 2700k.
hopefully wont need to try and carry out the almost surgical precision you guys mentioned - thanks anyway though.
going to try and upload some pics now.

no doubt joe, cant be stressin out the little fella!!
bought 5 x big bang from GHS and only the 3 left (1 casualty so far AAAAHHH!!!) want the other to have the best start in life hence waiting to see if this one get going before germinating the rest.

if the leaves are standing at 90° from the stem with strong green color the plant is healthy.
you water when the pot becomes light.
keep the lights on 24\7 or 18\6, whatever you find more convinent.
search the forums a bit and look around, it have been answered a lot of times before.
or start a new thread.

what seeds you got, soil etc. you say 200w light but is it hps, cfl? - to start with you want either 24/0 - 20/4 - 18/6 (lights on - off) depending on who you speak to, i have min e on 24/0 to start with.

here is my remaining big bang seedling with homemade light hanging over it, then my heater and ducting that goes through my curtain (the other side of which is the wooden door to the coal shed/grow room).
next photo is close up of said seedling - the right leaf is slightly burnt where the light were too close 3 days ago.
also shown id my os fan and ex fan in the other photo's
what do you guys think?

if looks fine, just don't touch it too much.
get a humidy dome over the seedlings. anything that hold humidity and is clear - like clear plastic cups or some clear food container, or glass cup, or whatever.
put the dome away for 15-30 minutes a day.
do that until it shows the second set of true leaves.
there is no need for venting yet, just keep temperature at 21-30C, which isn't that hard usually.

here is my attampt at a mother and clone cabinet.
only got the lights in at this tage and painted it, next is the extraction and intakes - was thinking about pc fans - i have put a deodorant can in for perspectivew on size.
what do you think

god, i need to learn how to spell or atleast type slower and read what i am writing.
if anyone has any thoughts on my cabinet and the methods i should use for extraction & venting i would greatly appreciate it, i have heard mixed thoughts regarding the pc fans - not strong enough etc. also how best to wire them up a 12v adaptor is req'd i think but its pretty easy to blow the fan if you wire up wrong.
by the way i have a 23w warm white cfl energy saving bulb in the middle of the cab and will have 2 x 20w cool white cfl energy saving bulbs one either side (in the pics they are both 9w warm whites either side of the 23w bulb). so will total 63w eventually in there.
also i will make sure its light proof as i intend on it sitting in the corner of my flower room to provide me with a mother that can just keep on giving.
perhaps a bit too advanced for a noob but i really want to jump in feet first and not have to keep paying out for fem seeds, plus have to wait 4 months between harvests.

Again, i agree with claptoman,
humidity dome, and get a humidity reader aswel man,
The cabs look good man, im not sure about mother cabs etc.. as i hant got the room for dat..
maybe one day....... Im not sure if you gunna want a little bit more height though for your mother cab...
Personally i wouldn't use pc fans, their too small and yea, they will burn out quick, why not fix up a bathroom extractor fan instead...
Also, if you bringing in fresh air, or any air, you gunna want a filter on the end to stop bugs and diseases etc.. or just use a pair of tights, will do the trick until you get sumit better..
