Ahh I see, but how do we know that the fact its all compacting would not change our Laws in physics, such as mess up the planets orbits.. thus still killing us instantly *if* somethings we diddnt expect to happen.. Remember, it works cause its expanding, who knows how it would work when contracting..

I think Copernicus put the Sun at the center of our solar system in 1500s. Most all other 'scientist' of the time were clergy. We all know how much the clergy has gotten wrong.

I have always considered multiple Bangs. Each more powerful than the last.

Small bang, space inflates, captures Dark Energy and collapses on itself. Another Bang. More Dark Energy collected. Another collapse. BANG.

Rinse and Repeat.

Until one time, the bang is big enough to escape the pull of gravity and continues to expand and gather Dark Energy and 14 billion years later, here we are, a bunch of stoners sitting around computers arguing about stuff that doesn't matter.

Pretty neat huh?

As far as Galaxy, no. We live in the Milky Way galaxy, one of 100's of Billions of galaxies in our universe that according to the Big Ban were all created in the big bang. The theory claims that there was no space prior to this. The bang created the space during the explosion as if blowing up a balloon and that balloon continues to 'inflate'.

How did it come about? That is the mystery. If the Religion Crowd would learn to except some of the science regarding the creation of the Universe, maybe they would learn to give God a little more credit than being a Magician. It's a lot more amazing than Genesis seems to make it which is understandable. Genesis was written a long time ago by someone with caveman's comprehension of the Universe. There is much more relevant information out there for those who seek it.

So I was hanging out with this old guy, back when I used carouse the bars, and he pulled a paper out of his bag that he had presented at the university of Washington, anyways the paper basically explored the idea that the universe will eventually return to a singularity, this fits with my theory that we are nothing more than an electron type object in a greater thing that is expressing the passage of energy through it, kind of like excited copper atoms in an electrical cord.

what yuh think of that? your life is nothing more than a giant coffee grinder being turned on.

But its still life is it not? & from that life we have made coffee grinders. I think its a success, regardless of what our purpose is.

I guess would could assume that we are contracting and distant galaxies are not but that would mean some blue shift somewhere in the middle of the universe but Doppler shifts show us moving away from everything. Just making assumptions on observable data.

With the sheer size of the universe it is hard not to consider us noting more than electrons inside an atom of God himself. We really are that irrelevant to the whole scheme of things.

i saw a 1/2 hour special that steven hawkins tried to break the big bang down for "simpletons" he did a good job of explaining it. what i got from it that there was absolutely nothing before the big bang. and when it happened matter as we know it started forming. but in reverse to that "dark matter" was also bieng produced. so when you add up all of the matter and dark matter you always get 0. its very confusing stuff and you need to think about it almost abstractly to get it.
i cant say i know what im talking about but if you see it on tv check it out.

Thing biggest problem I have with the expanding universe theory is:
If everything is flying away from everything else, why are galaxies colliding? They should be moving farther apart, shouldn't they?

you assuming that all objects are travelling at the same velocity, also remember that objects affect the trajectory and velocity of other objects,

In a perfect expansion with only the initial force acting on everything sure. But stuff collided during the bang redircting the force into other directions. You can envision the domino effect one simple collision early on would cause to the expanding universe.

One amazing thing about galaxies colliding is that anything from one of the galaxies actually hitting something in the other galaxy is almost mathematically impossible. They would simply pass through each other causing slight gravitational shifts.

Think about that for a minute.........
