Big Plants - Big Yield?

Hey...

Just wondering if some one can answer my question fairly new to this.... My seeds said 50-60cm indoors and some of mine are nearly 120cm three weeks into flowering? Have I done something wrong?

And one more.... Does a bigger plant generally mean more yield? :roll:

Hi Superleb

I think the reason your plants are bigger than the packet review is that you possibly had your light too far away and have made them stretch somewhat.

Usually a bigger plant means a bigger yield yes but there are alot of other factors in the equation also.

Thanks Jon.... I thought I may have done something slightly wrong - tis my first time... er have you got any good anti-stretching tips? Id always tried to keep the canopy the same height towards the start, moving the taller ones away from the middle to the edge - do you think there is a chance they could have grown more - being ever further away form the light? Leb....
 
Just saying...I bend and lay my 8 nodes about 1 to 1.5' across...under a net...the colas I have cut for the last 3 years are 3 ft long (although a lot denser now)...

Your plants are crazy stretched, I wouldn't expect record yields. Stretching is always light, and almost as always the light being too far away. I'm not sure what you're using for wattage but you need to get closer or more light. Keep in mind that when you double your distance, the intensity of the light is reduced by 25%.

Example: If your plant is getting 30 watts per square foot and the light is 5 inches from the tops and you raise the light to 10 inches away, your plants are getting 22.5 watts per square foot now. Plants power upwards because every inch gives them that much more energy. If they have plenty, they grow more branches rather than more height. Tightly spaced internodes are good internodes.
 
your plants do not look 3 weeks into flower just so you know, maybe 3 weeks into 12/12 and they dont even look like they have showed. whats ur light setup? how many plants? how big of an area?

To be precise, light falls off the square of it's distance:

1 feet = 1/1 = 100%
2 feet = 1/4 = 25%
3 feet = 1/9 = 11.11%
4 feet = 1/16 = 6.25%
 
Deff alot of stretching going on there, give us more details about your grow and we can help u out abit more, but i think the main issue here is (like everyone said) your lights are probably too high, u need to lower them to piont where its not too hot for the plants. best way to do this is put your hand at the top of the plants if its too hot for your hand its too hot for plants.
 
Thanks for all your replies... err the pictures are from a week ago - gonna take some more later.... they look a bit different now! Errr my room is 1.8m long 1.4m wide and 2.4m high..and the lights 400w and nine ladies in there. ????

Any help would be great...

oh ok sweet, how high have u been hanging them above the plants? a 400 might not be enough for 9 ladies in flower, but u might wanna get some advice from the other growers,i grow with 600w HPS over each plant and a 1000w MH inbetween as side lighting. but 400 watts for 9 1.2m plants doesnt seem enough
 
Ive been trying to keep the light about 40-50cm above the plants, but the ones round the edge are defo not getting the same light, I just think 9 is too many for what i have...Hmmmm do you think i cold lollipop them?

i think 50cm is too high to hang the light, the problem is if you bring it down even further, then the plants on the outside will suffer even more, i havnt had any experience with lollipoping so i cant really give u any advice on that, but if i were u i would add another 400. you will almost double your yield this way and all your plants are getting enough light.

P.S Are you from lebanon? i get there once a year in the summer for a month or so and party hard, it an awesome place to party.
 
lol... thanks... me and my mates around here buy really poor wead and we call it "Leb".. so im trying to grow "superleb" lol.

Do you think an option is down scale the number of plants...... ?

i dont no i guess it would hurt to leave them but your not going to yield as much form the outter ones. are the 9 positioned 3x3 in a box?
what are you growing in?
 
lol.. Wish I was in OZ - Im from the UK although to be fair it is pretty toasty today.. Im growing in cana coco.. and yes they are positioned like that... ill take some snaps after 7.00pm when they wake up... Are you from oz? what have you got growing? Do you know much about PK Boost? Thanks for all your help by the way....

yeah im from Oz but my dad is leb. not a super leb just a standard one.

maybe you should move the pots around every couple of days so they each get the light distriputed over the whole grow. depends how easy it is to get in an out.

i am a coco grower also, whats your feeding schedule like?
how many times a day do you feed?
do you run your nutes to waste? do you flush?

i use canna Pk i usually use it a couple weeks into flowering for about 2 weeks.
if u wanna increase your yield u should also consider topping of fimming your plans like i do,

here is a pic 1 of my plants in my current grow. i couldnt fit it all in the camera its 7ft tall including the pot

Say hello to Super Daddy Leb for me...

The feeding scedule im following is printed in the back of the catalogue my local grow shop provide. It recons that i should start giving PK now for one week - but some one here said wait till day 35 flowering on a 8 week flowering period and give for one week - you will defo hit the bud explosion widow then? what do you think? Im well lazy i feed once a day... I run about 10% to waste... not flushed yet? as im three weeks in would you recommend popping pk in for two weeks?

Topping and fimming... is it hard? dont want to hurt the ladies?

By the way nice looking plants.. can almost smell it!!! - Just taken some of mine - sorry about my poor camera!
