So doing the taxes here. Forms documents D.O. B. Looking at the 401k the annuities. Surprise you say. Balance of 401k=87 dollars WTF? 12 years vested for 87 bucks. Last years balance
75000 Dollars. The rich screwed the middle class.....again.
I hope we are not all in for a tax surprise......I hope there is a typo on the forms.
I will update this tomorrow. I am still hoping for a typo.

Yeah the annuities have been paying me 7.85% only 5% this year. No worries I am not running to spend it.

I dropped the paperwork off at the accountant. He told me it looked like there were heavy losses...and that there was a lot of that going around. I did not laugh. We are out that money I am almost sure of it. The employer matching funds do nothing if the whole plan has lost, These are the risks. We will not take them anymore.

$75K - $87.00? You work for Bear Sterns? That HAS to be a typo. After Enron they put rules in that made you diversify away from your company's stock....

That's a 99% loss. Either you worked for Bear Sterns or Lehman, or your 401k was invested entirely in Icelandic stocks....

I can't believe you haven't called the account manager for the 401k or been to your H.R. dept.

I'm guessing you should have around $30K-$35K in that account.

This is at an accountant now...Then I bitch. There is an order to being a successful pain in the ass:)
You have older statements right?

Call the fund manager. Its probably fidelity or american funds or vanguard. Those are the 3 biggest.

Your 401K shouldn't have any tax implications unless you cashed it out or took out a loan against it. So, IDK if the accountant will catch that - he should, but who knows.

I bet you could go online and access your account.

I let him do the taxes after the 87$ thing he is also looking into the other stuff..Much easier. I am old and have some things that are tax exempt and some are not. He will finish this up in a day. We will meet and he will advise me. Then i go to the 401k admin...... I want to know the law before I act.

I am almost 99.9% positive you could get an account balance over the phone. All you should need is an account number.

Seriously though, I wouldn't worry about. Its a typo.

There are laws saying you have to be diversified in your 401k - you can still own a good chunk of your employers' stock, but nothing near 50% - which may be dragging your account down more if you work for a bank, an insurer, or basically anything tied to finance.

Seriously, grab a statement, and call the number on it. These places have call centers that get questions all day every day. Just ask for a balance. You won't hurt any impending legal proceedings.

Yes I know to call. But the accountant charges me and he is more apt to not get a run around.
Its better because when I offer to diversify the office I will go to prison.
