biggest problem you never expected.

when you were setting up for your first grow, did you overlook anything?

what were some problems you ran into, that you didn't expect?

I have my whole grow area(closet) set up very nicely IMO. My genetics are on their way from the UK. But I just want to make sure I haven't overlooked anything.

hoping for some peer input.

thanks in advance

tons of shit. I initially undershot how much ventilation I'd need. I also undershot how much vertical space I'd need. I apparently did better than I thought, have nearly 5 ft plants and forgot to calculate in the height of the pots and light + light buffer distance (12 in).

hmmm... I didn't realize how light-proof my cab had to be in darkness (solved with a zippered tarp door with room for intake and outttake

I didn't realize I'd want a separate room for clones and moms (bought a grow tent, made a cloner - easy solution)

How critical a reliable thermometer and humidity meter are

I didn't realize how much they would smell (ona gel and a charcoal scrubber)

I also didn't realize how much fun it would actually be :weed:

thanks man... I'm not sure I have my ventilation on lockdown 100% but I definitely planned for the other stuff you mentioned...

also I'm going to be using ONA gel for odor control, but I'm not sure HOW to use it.

I just want to make SURE I have EVERYTHING covered.

thanks +rep

I underestimated really bad the need for space. I went from a closet with 1 plant to a stand alone closet with 2 plants to a large PVC tent holding 10 and now I am moving to Aeroponics.

I should have studied longer on what kind of setup I really wanted.

I wanted to put way too many plants in my closet... I'm looking at it alot more realistically now too.

lots of things but good temp and ventilation seems to be the nail in their coffin so to speak - if you gunna use reflective material to cover your grow area for better lighintg you better have damn good ventilation or plan on some fried plants

second grow here is what I am doing dif:

1) Better substrate mixture - using more pearlite

2) Actually getting good ventilation and monitoring humidity and temps

3) Actually testing the PH of runoff and my water

These 3 things are the keys and I can't believe how this was apparently underemphasized to me in my research just how important these things are.......Even thou now when I am going back thru the books and things I have read it does actually cover these things in detail...heh

It is to my understanding that for the gel all you do is take the top off and leave it in ur grow room.

It will slowly evaperate into your air and neutralize your odor issues.

wow... That's way more simple than I thought. I was picturing myself gloving up and like wiping it on walls in/around my growroom.

Hey 150whps

Thought i would add my 2 pennies worth.

the biggest thing i underestimated was insects. Namely the dreaded THRIPS.

Start smart with lots of different sticky traps or HOT SHOTS NO PEST STRIPS.

This is my opinion is one of the hardest insects to get rid of.

Now everytime i find a ladybug outside i capture it and pop it in my grow room.

SO far i have found 3 just in the last 2hours lol.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE INSECTS. THEY WILL FIND A WAY INTO YOUR GROW

So be prepared early.

good point

Definitly spray your entire grow room down with bleach water mix

Keep your grow area clean, have only the essentials.

I didn't plan for insects at all... Thanks for mentioning it. I'll make sure I do the bleach water mix. What should the mix be? 90/10 water/bleach

genuity, what kind of wattage are you rockin'?
