Birdyboy's first grow (wardrobe(closet)/cfls)

my mate gave me this new plant, he'd chopped off the lower leaves (thinking it would make the plant concentrate on a bud at the top) and was growing it on his windowsill. Any tips on how to get the plant back to good health? (wilting leaves)
And will the side branches grow back? D: Also It's been in flowering cause it's winter here, but i'm going to put it back in veg for atleast a month with my seedlings, should i LST her to control height? and I assume buds will no longer grow at the ex-nodes?

Lots to tell, re-potted the traumatised plant the other day but no change in her mood.

I'm pretty sure I basically killed my first 4 seeds during germination somehow (there was an incident where they got insanely hot) so I germinated another which is really taking off now.

I'm a little worried about it though, it looks to me like its stretching a little already. It's 2 inches tall and has been above ground for like 24 hours.

Today I finally sorted out my light setup... apart from the bulbs that is.

So I should have at least 80w at a time on my 2 plants once I've sorted the bulbs.
Feedback would be greatly appreciated

Well it's 4 days in for the NL special so here's a couple of pics.



Got some nice big true leaves now although its seed leaves are pretty weird. I think I can see the second set just coming through but it's not too clear in the pics I mean they're tiny.

Going out tomorrow and hopefully I'll get the rest of the lights sorted

Just wondering quickly birdyboy, did you resolve the issue of the lights? B&Q are the biggest waste of space ever when it comes to light bulbs! but there is a logical reason. Most shops in the UK and Northern Europe only sell "Warm White" bulbs because they feel warmer and we are always so cold! the hotter the country is, generaly the cooler the bulb! I had to order all my bulbs through eBay but then I had to buy the seperate E40 light fittings, but if you're on a budget, I would go with a couple of "Daylight" T8 Fluorescents, maybe about 18w each. You can order the daylight bulbs from qVs and other ELECTRICAL SPECIALISTS and they are only about £3/tube! Failing that, B&Q do a light bulb thats "Cool Blue" which is in the 4000k spectrum, really not that great for the plant, but better than nothing in certain circumstances! Or failing the first failing option, get yourself to a reptile center! They sell the right bulbs! But be careful, as most reptile bulbs have 10% UVB spectrum, which is good for your plant, but not good for you! Research UVB on the forums and it will all be clear my friend! Happy growing!

Thanks TohToh, I've not yet sorted out my blue spectrum however for my first grow I think I'll just be going with red bulbs throughout for simplicitys sake. Thanks for the tips though

Some heat stress Can't see it well cause it's only small but I'm sure that's what it is because the leaves are also sorta twisting a little.

I can't get a fan in my room at the moment does anyone have any suggestions for cooling it down in there another way? (Cheaply)

For cooling, i've heard just filling a 2L bottle up with water and freezing it then leaving it in the box for the day will knock off a few degrees. Maybe you can get a cycle going so theres always a frozen bottle in there while the lights are on, good luck!

The abused bagseed has quite a bit of new growth I'm actually quite impressed with it even though it looks like an alien. My NL special is doing nicely at this point however...

Leaf yellowing. I guess it's N-P or K deficiency (despite the lack of red stem) but I haven't got any fertilizer atm. I suspect when I put it in its new big pot it'll be bouncing along nicely again

I've decided to try out some LST on Joanna just for the sake of experience and hopefully a little boost to the end result in terms of quantity
Just not entirely sure how beneficial it is seeing as Joanna is already into flowering. No idea whether or not to continue to LST her or simply let her grow now. No sign of sex as yet, getting a little antsy XD

Question time

Should i still use my Veg fert in lieu of bloom fert? or would no fertiliser be better than the wrong fertiliser?

This plant has been alive (if by the skin of her teeth) for much longer than Joanna and so as I expected is taking off very nicely under 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness, pistils are emerging all over the place!




Because of her alien shape she has around 7 tops which is awesome. Here is her tallest.

Hey i've been reading your journal and you mention about lights etc check out this website http://www.3ch.co.uk/ they might have a shop near you maybe ? I've only just discovered that one of their shops is just down the road from me

P.S can't wait to see the results, I'm thinking about doing the same strain as you and have a similar set up. But in the end i got my CFL's off e-bay a few months back - i know English shops suck for lights.
