A morbidly obese woman has been acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old nephew after her attorney crafted an irrefutable defense.


Mayra Rosales admitted to rolling over and falling on her nephew back in 2008.


Rosales claimed her fall crushed her nephew to the point he suffered a fatal head injury. Investigators did not buy the story, but were forced to proceed with the murder trial. Expert testimony revealed the child’s death was caused by repeated blows to the head, chest and limbs.


Defense for Rosales claimed there was no possible way the obese woman could have caused her nephew’s death. The 31-year-old woman weighed more than 1000 pounds at the time of the murder and could not lift her arm high enough to get the force required to cause such a deadly blow.


Rosales finally admitted it was her sister, the boy’s mother, that beat the child with a hairbrush after he refused to eat.

Furor in Greece over pedophilia as a disability

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greek disability groups expressed anger Monday at a government decision to expand a list of state-recognized disability categories to include pedophiles, exhibitionists and kleptomaniacs.

The National Confederation of Disabled People called the action "incomprehensible," and said pedophiles are now awarded a higher government disability pay than some people who have received organ transplants.

The Labor Ministry said categories added to the expanded list — that also includes pyromaniacs, compulsive gamblers, fetishists and sadomasochists — were included for purposes of medical assessment and used as a gauge for allocating financial assistance.

But NCDP leader Yiannis Vardakastanis, who is blind, warned the new list could create new difficulties for disabled Greeks who are already facing benefit cuts due to the country's financial crisis.

"What's happened is incomprehensible. I think there is some big mistake. The ministry should have a different policy on disability," Vardakastanis told the Associated Press. "The list contains major changes to disability quotients, which could effectively remove many people from access to benefits."

The new list gives pyromaniacs and pedophiles disability pay up to 35 percent, compared to 80 percent for heart transplant recipients.

"It's really not serious to grant Peeping Toms a 20-30 percent disability rate, and 10 percent to diabetics, who have insulin shots four or five times a day," said Vardakastanis.

Greece has been fighting to avoid bankruptcy since 2009. Public spending on health and welfare programs has been sharply cut under austerity measures imposed as a condition for receiving emergency loans from the International Monetary Fund and other countries using the euro currency.

Independently run welfare programs that survived on state grants have been the hardest hit, leaving some disabled groups, including the deaf, facing sudden drops in their standard of care.

The government is also battling widespread abuse in the welfare system, forcing tens of thousands of disabled people to be reassessed.

Newser) – In December, stumped Washington state authorities sent a DNA sample from an unsolved 1991 murder to a forensic consultant in California—and though she didn't return with a match to the murderer himself, she did figure out who his 17th-century ancestors were.

The DNA profile closely matched the family of Robert Fuller, whose relatives came to America on the Mayflower; the consultant found the connection by looking at genetic profiles donated by people tracing their genealogy. Detectives will whittle down the suspects by looking at geography and physical characteristics; two composite sketches of a man in his 20s were made after 16-year-old Sarah Yarborough was murdered on her high school campus. And because the DNA trace follows males, the forensic consultant says there is "a high degree of probability" the suspect is also named Fuller. "People get excited about having a Mayflower connection," she tells CNN, "but the most important thing is having a probable last name for this guy."

The Evening Sun reports that the Pennsylvania couple learned that 81-year-old Richard had lung cancer in November; he was given six months. After a fall, he was taken to York Hospital, and his wife didn't react well.
"She didn't want to be in the house without him," explains the couple's daughter-in-law. "It was all just getting too hard, so God took care of it." Nancy was soon hospitalized in a separate location for lingering issues from a 10-year-old heart surgery. At 12:25am Sunday, she died. When the family arrived at Richard's bedside to break the bad news, they discovered him in far worse condition than usual—and the clock in his room stuck at 12:25. His family stayed with him as he repeatedly said, "Pull me up." And then, "Hold me tighter now." And then he was gone.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) are now commonly used on the battlefield and by fire and police departments. Most of them are remotely controlled and operated as individual robots. They’re also rather expensive. At the other end of the spectrum are robot swarms that need to be autonomous and inexpensive.

Swarms are still in the research phase, which has been more limited than other robot research because of cost. Plus, swarms only get interesting when there are dozens or hundreds of robots working together. Now, two universities are churning out inexpensive robots that can be used for teaching robotics in general and then moving on to swarms.

Deangelo Mitchell and his brother Wayne were taken into custody by the cops in South Carolina when the po-po suspected they had drugs in their car. While in custody, Deangelo convinced Wayne to eat the ounce of cocaine he had hidden in his ass. Then Wayne died.It was probably an overdose from eating the cocaine. They were trying to destroy the evidence, but eating cocaine out of someone's butt just sounds like such a horrible idea, I think I'd rather spend more time in jail.
Deangelo was released on bond for the drug charges, but might face additional charges for his brother's death. He's already sentenced to spending the rest of his life knowing he killed his brother with butt coke. That's pretty bad.
