(Newser) A New Zealand woman drove overnight for nearly 200 miles and sent texts as she wentbut was probably asleep the whole time. It all started when a concerned friend contacted police shortly after midnight Wednesday because the unnamed woman, who has a sleep disorder, took sleeping pills and drove away from her home, Stuff (NZ) reports. Police knew she was texting, and people who received the texts said she sounded half-asleep. Police tracked her location by her cellphone, but she had moved on by the time officers arrived. Police finally found her slumped over the wheel, asleep, in the driveway of her old home in the town of Mount Maunganui, after what the AFP describes as a five-hour drive. She awoke with "absolutely no recollection of the events overnight," said a police sergeant. "We have sought an urgent order forbidding her to drive and to seek medical advice on her suitability to remain holding her drivers license." Scarier still, this wasn't a first: Ten months ago she took a drive while sleeping and ended up in another city.
