Yes, finally a response. That is what I was thinking too. I have not built the room yet, but once its built, and the HPS is on and the room is all in closed, I should have lots more control of where things are at. Since its in the garage, it tends to copy the weather outside.

Im going to try and start on the grow room build tomm. and atleast get sheet rock and HPS light on them.

hey black sheep longtime no C umm by ur picks it looks like underwatering cause most are dry but it looks like mulch. mulch absorbs water from the soil so u pour on water and the wood absorbs it before ur plant does. and the temps and humidity are at a high level of fluxuation this tends to aggitate a plant and stress it but the others are looking good

Yea, I am just going to bust ass, and build my grow room tonight and tomm morn. and just be done with majority of it. And then slap in the big 400 HPS, and leave the front of the entrence open for venting till my inline fans and stuff gets here. That should regulate the temps and humidity a bit, and for sure give it a more like the sun, and it should give these plants a boost in growth.

But yea, its weird cause some plants looks perfect. But some are totally funky looking.

things seem to be coming along nicely. support those stems so the plant can focus energy on leaf growth. the stretching is probably being helped by changing out those bulbs to grow fluros. they have a lower lumen output. oh and that is miracle grow soiless mix isn't it? i used it many years ago and it does work but dries out quickly.

Read the bottom right corner, to me it had everything I needed. Besides orgranics, there are no fert or nutes in it that I know of.

well that looks to me like a soilless mix. it doesn't say that on the bags from the pictures but it appears to be just that; a soiless mix. essentially what you are doing is growing hydroponically. you shouldn't have to do much ferts for first few weeks with those kinds of "soil" ammendments. i ended up having to water everday with a similar product from miracle grow. i also noticed that your new lamp has an attatched ballast. if you start to have heat problems in there i would suspect this could be part of the issue. those ballasts get hot as hell and if it is in the room it can create temp issues.

I know, I should have got a separate ballast, and light setup, but it was bought in the stages of learning, but oh well. I should serve me well. I have the unit about 2 feet away from the plants. Do you think I should put it closer?

24 inches is correct height away from your seedlings given the 400 watt hps you are using. 400 watts will do ya 20 square feet so no problems. when they get a little further along and you got the venting finally up and running you will be surprised to find you can get as close as 12 inches away without frying them. you are right that light will serve you well. HPS all the way through will work just fine if thats the plan. way denser than the cfl crowd will get.

Fuck, My mom is flying out here in 4 days, and I'm not sure If my ventelation supply's will be here on time.

I did not sleep comfortable last night with this new light setup. Its heavy, and hot, and thought I was going to burn the house down. Even thow my temps are ok, its just scary having that powerful light on 24/0, the weight and heat. What if I am sleeping and there is an earthquake, or that sucker falls. I guess I just need to get used to it being there humming over my crop.

Im going to ad a smoke detector to the garage soon and get a fire extinguisher just for safety.

SO I HAVE A QUESTION, CAN I VEG WITH THIS LIGHT FOR 3-4 MORE DAYS, SWITCH BACK TO THE FLORO FOR ONE MORE WEEK TILL MY MOTHER LEAVES, AND SETUP THE VENTS ECT AND BACK TO THE HPS?

width times length times height...volume of the box is what i was getting at not square footage on the ground...i'm sure you knew what i meant. it was late and i had a bit of a buzz when i was typing. anyway switching back to the fluros won't harm the plants at all. it'll just make the veg time a little longer. i am a long time enthusiast who has been down just about every road imaginable over the years. i try to help people save a little time and effort and money by not repeating the mistakes i made. that is all. i am no guru. but if your temps hit ninety degrees for any length of time growth will stop and yield will greatly suffer under these conditions. wait till company leaves and get back down to business! oh and about an earthquake. more than likely if it is a strong enough quake to shake the light down to the ground the filament will surely break inside the bulb or it'll shatter when it hits something. i have mixed opinions on a fire detector. if is a loud bugger in the garage and you are at work someone might call the fire dept saying they hear a smoke detector going off. if you want real peace of mind get a cheap remote PC camera and then you can see the inside of your space whenever and wherever you are at as long as you have internet access. besides if HID lighting was burning down homes left and right it would be all over these forums.

That was refreshing. Well I got the ventilation items I needed and made a trip to HD for the rest. Cut both holes for in and out vents. Painting is almost done too. Almost done with this sucker. Only thing that I am a wee upset about is the 4" Valueline inline fan is really loud. So I might throw some kind of foam and boxes to dampen the noise. Other then that, this thing pushes some major air. Will post a progress pic tonight.

OK guys, started on some other projects today on the Grow Room. My Ventilation supply's came in today. Here is a progress pic of the Valueline 4" Vent that will have 2 4" tubes removing heat from top, and another pic of a inline booster duct fan to bring in fresh San Diego air from outside in.

I also started painted the inside from the left side white. Should be all done and up and running my tomorrow night.

ONE QUESTION THOUGH, ON TOP OF THIS HOOD, THERE ARE 4" VENT SLITS THAT HAVE PLATES THAT CAN BE REMOVE, HOW CAN I CONNECT A 4" DUCT TUBE DIRECTLY TO THIS? OR SHOULD I JUST PUT THE TUBES RIGHT ABOVE THE UNIT?

OK, do I put them both on the light part or one on the light and one on ballast?
