Blueberry strain pollination?

I am relatively new to growing and I recently received several packs of seeds. I have grown bag seed for a couple of years and after being burned quite often I ran into an awesome White Widow and started just growing cuttings. After growing out several packs of seeds, one being dj short blueberry I kept the best 3 cuttings. All 3 turned out to be males and I had my heart set on blueberry. I have never smoked blueberry so my question is, should I use a male blueberry to pollinate my white widow, a cheesequake plant that is growing awesome and several black light (black domina x northern lights #1 from coastal. Having not smoked blueberry would I be making the wrong decision by pollinating these plants or would I be missing out on blueberry? In other words should I toss my male and order another pack of seeds or would he give me something close enough to a blueberry flavor and a potent plant or would I just be watering down and ending up with a ton of seeds I wont be happy with? I also would like to add that the blueberry male does look outstanding. It has a dark purple stem, showed its sex slowly, has vigor and is an overall beautiful plant...

Your choices...

1 Order another pack of blueberry seeds and hope you get a female this time. Linebreed that female to your male and walla you now have a pure strain (your own strain) of blueberry. You'll pretty much have consistent phenotype depending on how inbreed the parent stocks are.

2. or Pollinate a non blueberry female (doesn't matter which one) with your blueberry male. Backbreed the daughters to your original male blueberry for at least 5 generations and the last generation can be considered as pure blueberry (again your own strain). This process though requires some serious consideration as to which daughter/s to back breed. Once you have your 5th generation, you can pretty much select a male and a female and do the normal line breeding.

Breeding is really simple.

The only thing that need to keep an eye on with inbreeding is when your strain starts to lose vigor, fertility, and or yield.

I've got a dank northern lights blueberry male i collected pollen from. I bred it to blimburns version of northern lights. If the seeds turn out well and my pollen keeps; Id like to back cross for a few generations.

I made the NLB strain by crossing auto gigabud to auto blueberry headband. The results have been varied, the first one I grew was a wrinked male, I thought the seeds must be trash. My second was a keeper, this male plant produced blueberry scented trichomes. The third male grew no trichomes but was still beautiful and healthy. Ive gotten one female since then and she is very dense and has the blueberry aroma.

This is where serious selective process begins. Any offspring that doesn't fit to what you're looking for ( in blueberry for example ) have to be "culled". This part is actually the hardest to do ( what if its a great offspring? always comes to mind ), specially if the pheno looks unique. Stay the course and follow your program strictly.

Now, if you're making a new strain from 2 unrelated different strain parents (like your NLB ) then that's a whole different process. You would be pheno hunting and once you have the pheno you want, you should have a program to stabilize that pheno which also involved 5 generations at least.

I'm a pollen chucker from way back and I'd pollinate a few buds on a lower branch on each different strain you have just to get some interesting crosses. You can decide later if you want to go through a long process to stabilize some of the better phenos but you will get a nice variety of pot to smoke from your crosses.

I've got some BB from Crop King going myself and one of my favorite strains is a BB crossed with L.S.D. a buddy made 10 years ago. Both of his came from Barney's Farms when Barney's still sold regular seeds. He called it Lone Star Blue Heaven as he lived in Texas at the time and there was already a few different Blue Heavens being sold online. The Mazar in the L.S.D. seems to be really good for my depression as I have an auto strain called Purple Jem that is Mazar X LowRyder that has a similar medicinal effect on depression for me.

The BBs I have now I want to cross with my OTTO#1 which is a high CBD hemp strain with less than 1% THC as the high CBD strains seem to work best for my arthritis. Everything I have I plan to cross with the Otto then work at stabilizing some decent CBD versions of them. I'll be crossing the Blue Heaven with it too.

In my experience pollen doesn't keep much longer than 3 or 4 months even when desiccated and kept in cool, dark conditions.

Thanks XS121 for taking the time responding and advice, I am going to try and follow your instructions and see what I can do.

I'd pollinate a branch on each strain like OldMedUser suggested regardless of what else you do. The worst that can happen is you end up with some crosses that might be really good.

Thanks med user for the advice. I can't find a Google answer for this question but say I have a male with a thc level of 12 percent and a female with the same is it possible I could have some offspring with a higher thc level than both parents?

This is what is actually happening with the marijuana plant today. People have been crossing strains without any sound breeding program. Anything good is given a name.

Nothing wrong with that....if for your personal consumption. Problem is, personal crosses are being spread around, pass among friends or even sold to the public. This is the reason why a cannabis strain is not really a strain because their genetic makeup varies widely even among supposedly same strain.

I agree. I don't sell anything I cross and have no intention of ever trying to sell commercially. When I give seeds away to friends I always make up my own names. They don't even know what the crosses are from. I'm not going to claim as mine what took someone years of work to create.

It's possible but more likely that they'll be around the same as the parents tho with any cross you are shuffling the deck and latent genes in one can become dominant in the cross and give you something totally different. Could be crap but could be the bomb too. When messing around like this one should always get a clone or two off each test female that's being flowered out. A lot of times it not the finest looking girl that blows your mind and counting on revegging to save a primo girl is a 50/50 shot. Lost a few good ones in the past by not backing up with a copy or two.

I don't see anything wrong with naming your own crosses as long as you are honest about their parentage. I don't want to grow anything that I don't know so no bagseed for me.

Like my Northern Myst. Anyone I give those seeds too is told where they came from. A cross between Kali Mist and Northern Lights #5 both purchased from the old Marc Emery seed bank around 2000. Not sure which breeder they are from tho as he had 50 or so that sold through his bank at the time and I was gifted the seeds. The first 10 pages or so of the old Cannabis Culture print mag was just lists of breeders and the seeds they sold. Miss that mag.

It's pretty much impossible to breed anything without standing on the shoulders of someone else who is also standing on shoulders. Unless you have the capabilities of Mon$atan you aren't really creating anything you can truly call your own. Nobody can. They can't even do that really as they are just twisting a gene or two around or splicing in something alien to use a totally f'ed up patent law to steal from the greats to increase their bottom line.

You are creating unique blends of different genes tho that may produce something no one else has and that's a lot of fun. :)
