BOG Genetics Hermie!

Well I hate to say it but I picked up a few packs of seeds from BOG himself and after flowering a few out I am running into hermies :cry:. The first one to hermie on me was Bogglegum. I really thought it was something I did but decided to keep a cutting of it to run again. Well after 2 weeks of flowering the cut it also started to herm. At the same time I also had Sour Strawberry going. This one also hermied around the same time as the BoggleGum. I reached out to BOG on IG when the first hermie popped up and sent him over photos. He said he would replace the pack if I made another purchase. At this point after having 2 seeds go hermie from 2 different strains I kinda don't want to risk it and waste anymore time growing them out. I decided to post this to let other fellow growers know if you are growing his gear keep a eye out for hermies.

I wanna clear up that my room is completely sealed with no light leak issues. I also have other genetics from multiple breeders running for a while also flowering in the same room. I have not had any other plants hermie but from BOG Genetics. My temps are completely stable at 75-80F.

Just to finish this up I am very disappointed. I must have had a bad luck of the draw or there is a issue with some of these BOG Genetics. Either way I think i'm going to kill off the rest of the seedlings I had going. For me this just isn't worth trying to find keepers to hopefully not herm.

Stress testing is important, I purposely abuse my plants on their first flowering to weed out the intersex prone plants, everything from excessive super cropping to high/low temps, small pots/rootbound plants. it's worked so far, anything fickle tends to get hurled in the compost bin.


BOG is a good dude, I'm sure if you manage to contact him he'd give you a fresh pack, I ran the bogglegum alongside bubblelicious by Nirvana around 2015, the bubblelicious was much more resilient to my abuse.

From my 10 years of growing and popping hundreds if not thousands of seeds never seen this many herms back to back. Stress testing genetics and parents before breeding them is 100% important. If parents show any signs of herm they should be tossed out. Ends up being wasted time/money on the growers end.

Just to note the spots on the leaves on the BOG strain is not PM. I spray all my plants with sulfur in VEG for IPM.

I only ever grew bogglegum back in the day and I had a few herm, more that did not, but none even worth the space. Failed in all categories. I saw lots of killer looking plants back in the day though. Maybe the other strains are better, but I never went back after that experience.

I’m not sure how he’s making these seeds but something is not right if so many people are getting herms.

This isn’t a manufacturing issue, seeds aren’t really “made” by people. It’s not like there is something he did wrong when he paired his breeding parents that have been producing his seed stock for years. I’m not saying that it’s all your fault either but there are different forms of stress, over feeding is responsible for more hermaphroditism than anything else imho. That is very individualized and his plants are light feeders. Ultimately all I’m saying is these BOG seeds have been grown all over the place for literally decades and there’s never been widespread talk of hermaphroditism in his seed stock. As you stated he will help you out, because he’s a good old dude.

I just don’t understand why people don’t understand that growing plants is interacting with nature, while it’s a multivariate activity it’s not manufacturing there are some things that are completely subjective.

I've never had hermie issues with BOGs gear and BOG is a good guy so if you're in the States he'd most likely hook you up.

Maybe you don't realize this but keeping and flowering in tiny pots like that will cause stress and stress flowers. What are those 1 gallon pots?

Sometimes when you have a system so dialed in and strong genetics the plants root system quickly maxes out its space so you need bigger pots than you'd normally use. There was another user in the Bodhi Thread that had issues with using smaller pots too, he realized that he had never had genetics that could max out his standard finishing sized pot and upped the pot size by two gallons and never had herm issues again.

This is not a breeding issue its nature. Good luck

The first Bogglegum and Sour Strawberry plants I had went hermie were actually in a 5 gallon smart pot. Only reason the clone testers were in 1 gallons the 2nd round was because I didn’t want to waste space and soil to have them yet again hermie. I been growing for a long time and never seen this many herms. I have 2 phenos of LSD going in the same room at week 6 with no herm issues.

I actually reached out to BOG for a 2nd time and all he said was he would replace a pack if I ordered again. I feel like at this point why spend more money and gamble on the possibility of being in the same situation. Also he told me that the seeds I got were old stock? Why even sell them knowing they are old?
