hey now, quit bitching at wiki. You dont boil your piece. Heat stress's the glass, so eventually it will get weaker and break much much easier than before. Plus how could you boil a bong? Thats way to much of a risk for expensive glass. Get some 99% and epsom, trust me.

Dude get the fuck out of here, your telling people to boil there bongs Wtf kind of shit are you thinking, your obviously unexperienced in bong cleaning. Stop telling people shit that will make their glass weaker. It takes for ever and still doesn't have like new results like alcohol does. Heat is incomparable to 99% for cleaning resin off glass.

boiling it is quick and free....and will only weakin your glass if you leave it in for too long.......plus tha water can be strained and made into tea w/ a teabag of your choice...

thc isn't water soluble. I fail to see how this could get you high. If eating straight weed won't get you high then eating (drinking) weed and water won't either. If I recall correctly don't you need to add milk to make the thc digestible?

where do you get 99% alcohol?

and finally, I heard that if you clean a color changing piece the colors disappear. This doesn't seem possible, is it true?

This is how it was explained to me:

A color changing piece appears to change colors as you use it, because resin is building up inside, making it darker and making the colors that were already there more apparent. When you clean your piece, you're cleaning away the resin that made the colors visible. Thus the colors seem to disappear. To get the colors back, just get the piece dirty again.

Wouldn't a pharmacy or a drug store have it? I thought they all sold alcohol that was either 70% or 99%...the rubbing alcohol.

Re the THC thing. Adding butter or some sort of fat based product to the tea will give the THC something to bind to, then your body will digest it. But no, straight water won't do much because as you said Bookworm, it's not water soluble. If it was, we'd have to smoke a heap of billies and not get real high, then drink the bong water for a rush.

They recommend steeping your pot in the water for about an hour and a half before adding a teaspoon of butter to it.

Wikipedia says this:

This thread blew the fuck up, whoa. I think I posted this on my way out the door for work. Aggravated with co-workers and without ganja I vented my frustrations by cleaning the house this morning. Now I gotta tell my Roommates to keep up with the fucking cleaning. Which brings me back here three pages later.

My bongs are large double percolators, one modded to have two inlets to the 2nd chamber. I think I am going to get another one of the routing tubes for the other smaller bong, the increased flow is the shit. The guys at the glass shop thought it was tight as hell when we did it to our first one and wanted to see. Also need a new stem.

I am going to get all three cleaning materials at the drug store. I just plan on soaking most of the pipes in the Alcohol+Salt and actively clean the ones I want to use today.
I am excited.

P.S. - whoever said resin has a low THC content has never smoked a res bowl. Its not desperation, its dedication.

Cleaning the bong and pipe has always been something I dreaded. In fact sometimes I just say fuck it and buy a new pipe or bong instead of doing the dreaded cleaning job. That is until I read this post:

I gave it a try on a small glass bubbler I had.... worked like a charm.... put the boiling water and Oxyclean into a big glass bowl and put the bubbler in it. Came back 30 minutes later and all the residue had slid right off and out of the pipe. I simply rinsed the pipe in cool water and it was spotless. Actually I don't like the smell of the Oxy so when I rinsed I ran a few drops of dish soap over it to just to really remove the Oxy smell.

Today I cleaned an old bong that I haven't used in over a year because I just didn't want to clean it. It's one of those acrylic plastic types.... too big for the glass bowl so I took the bowl and stem out and filled the kitchen sink 1/2 way up with boiling water and Oxy and put the bong in it. 30 minutes later and it was clean. I did run a soft bottle brush through it just to get in the crevices but the goo slid right out. I put the stem and bowl into a separate glass bowl with Oxyclean.... you can literally see the bubbles eating away at the goo.... I did run a small dowel through the stem just to push out any sticklers.... but there was no scrubbing or scraping of any kind. Here's some pics from today.
